May 17, 2017

Elza Marie Van Den Bussche

(nee Buydens)

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elza on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at River Parks Garden Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 95 years.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Maurice (Germaine) of Winnipeg and his three daughters, Sheila (Scott) Kilpatrick, Hayleigh and Arleigh of Selkirk; Maureen Van Den Bussche of Rivers; and Corina (James) Powell, Nathan and Nicole of Winnipeg; and her daughter Joyce Van Den Bussche of Winnipeg.

Elza was predeceased by her husband Laurent (1993), her father Hector Buydens (1954) and mother Valentine Van Cauwenberghe (1966). She was the youngest and last survivor of seven children.

Elza was born June 9, 1921 in St. Alphonse, and married in 1941. Laurent and Elza farmed in St. Alphonse until 1965 when they moved to Winnipeg, returning to Swan Lake in 1979. In 2006 Elza moved to the Prairie View Lodge in Pilot Mound, then to the Treherne Personal Care Home, then to Golden Links in Winnipeg and eventually to River Parks Garden Personal Care Home. She will always be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, and just the simple love she showed to everyone in her life.

A big thank you to the personal care homes in Pilot Mound, Treherne and Winnipeg especially River Park Gardens, for the excellent care she had during her struggle with dementia.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church on Saturday May 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM in Swan Lake, MB with prayers at 1:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba www.alzheimer.mb.ca or charity of your choice.
