It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurent Bernardin, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the age of 84 years.

He leaves behind his son Marc and his wife Karen, his son Philip and his wife Jo-Anne and their children Matthew and Sara; as well sisters Helen, Claire, Simone and brothers Robert and Rene.

Laurent was born October 31, 1932 in Elie. He was one of 13 children born to Joseph and Angeline Bernardin. He followed his father’s footsteps into a career in farming. He married the love of his life, Noelline in 1957. Cultivating a living off the land was a struggle for Laurent and Noelline in the beginning. Those early days mom worked at the Caisse and dad supplemented their income by taking on many different jobs from a construction worker to petroleum truck driver. Laurent was a dedicated family man with a great sense of humor, that he enjoyed sharing with others. Losing his wife in 2013 was terrible blow to Laurent but he never lost his infectious humor. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be held in the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Elie, Manitoba on Saturday, November 4, 2017. Prayers and eulogy at 10:30 followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 am with Father Isaïe Blanchette officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
