Obituary

Lucien Joseph Gauthier

Peacefully surrounded by his family, Lucien Gauthier passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Portage District General Hospital, at the age of 80 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Suzanne (Ken) Chambers, Carole (Lionel) Tremorin, Doris (Henri) Tremorin, Rachelle (Roger) Leduc and Robert (Pam) Gauthier; his grandchildren, Corey (Shiva), Marc, Ginette (Patrick), Nathalie (Nathan), Lisa (Kevin), Micheline (Ryan), Nicole, Eric, Julien (Kailey), Cameron, Aaron and Sean; his great-grandchildren, Rheanne, Emmett, Joelle, Logan, Eli, Taryn, Maxx and two expected great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Henri (Yvette) Gauthier, Anna (Tony) Silvari and Laurette Philippot; his in-laws, Céline Gauthier, Denis (Louise) Rosset, Annette Cormier, Claudette Philippe, Monique Rosset and Jeannette Fillion-Rosset, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lucien was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie (née Rosset); his grandson Patrick Tremorin; his parents Ovila and Lucienne (née Lemoine) Gauthier; his siblings, Léo (Hermine), Oliva, Alfred, Raoul Gauthier; his in-laws, Raymond Philippot, Gaëtan Cormier, Rose Fay, Angèle (Réal) Laliberté, Albert (Marie), Gilbert and Donald Rosset.

Lucien was born on November 5, 1937 in the village of St. Claude. He grew up in a family of 8 children, on a farm northwest of town. He attended Louvain School in his early and middle years and then graduated from the St. Claude Village School. After school, he worked at the Bank of Montreal on the corner of Portage and Main for one year until his passion for farming pulled him back home.

In 1960, Lucien married Marie Rosset. They began their life together on the dairy, beef and grain farm, where they raised their 5 children. They remained there until they retired to the village in 1998. Although he'd moved to town, Dad continued to enjoy returning to the farm to help where he could.

Lucien was dedicated to many community committees over the years, including the Caisse Populaire Board of Directors, Game and Fish Committee, St. Claude Manoir Committee and the Knights of Columbus, to name a few.

Lucien treasured spending time with family and friends, camping, travelling, playing cards, hunting and fishing. One of his greatest passions was his woodworking, spending many hours producing beautiful furniture pieces for family.
