Raymond Yarjau

Peacefully at the Notre Dame Foyer on Friday, September 1, 2017, Mr. Raymond Yarjau of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba passed away at the age of 95 years.

He leaves to mourn his passing his five children, Monique (Raymond) Chabbert, Gloria (Peter) De Spiegelaere, Raphaël (Bonita) Yarjau, Gisèle Clark, and Nicole Yarjau (Réal Comte) and son-in-law Gilles Caillier; 16 grandchildren, Claudia (Harald), Carol (Christoph), Richard (Brittney), Patricia, Natalie, Lynn (Santiago), Marc (Danielle), Chantal (Danny), Rylan, Janelle, Adam, Roseline, Robert, Jamie, Zoé and Cédric, 4 great-grandchildren, Francine, Zacharie, Isaac and Lola and 1 great-great-grandchild, Élisah. Also left to mourn are his sister Dora Bennie and his brother Edgar (Linda) Yarjau; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Yvette Yarjau, Robert (Doris) Pantel, Edwin Pouteau, Doreen Moret and Les McLaren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife Lucienne (née Pantel); his son Norman Yarjau; daughter Lorette Caillier; son in law Norman Clark; brothers and sisters, Aimé, Antoine, Cécile, Normand, Rita, Roméo, Alcide, Lucille, Paul, Robert, his brother and sisters-in-law Yvette Foster, Ronald Moret and Angeline Pouteau, his in-laws Gabriel and Germaine (née Thevenot) Pantel and his parents Antonia (née Lemieux) and Félix Yarjau.

Born January 11th , 1922 in the homestead farmhouse south of Cardinal, Manitoba, Raymond grew up helping his parents on the farm. He then spent several years working out of province in bush camps and mines. He eventually started farming his own land west of Notre Dame where he met and married Lucienne Pantel, with whom he spent the next 63 years. During that time, they moved back to his family homestead.

Raymond was a passionate man who cared deeply about his family, his culture, farming and his horses. He had numerous interests including sports, politics and travelling. He was a diehard Habs fan and volunteered numerous hours to community based sports and activities. A devout Catholic, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 70 years. He also enjoyed singing in the church choir.

His family will remember him fondly for his playful teasing, interesting nicknames, animated discussions and strong opinions. Papa, we appreciate everything you did for us and we will miss you dearly. Adieu, cher Papa, on t’aime beaucoup!

The family would like to thank the staff at the Foyer Notre Dame as well as all of the various health care professionals who tended to Papa over the years.

Prayers will be held at Adam’s Funeral Home Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Recitation of the Rosary and Video Tribute at 10:30 a.m, Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. followed by Interment in the Parish Cemetery with Father Alain Guenou officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Notre Dame Health Foundation, Box 190 Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB R0G 1M0.
