Obituary

Adele Aimée Cabernel
(née Marginet)

Peacefully at the Treherne Personal Care Home on Sunday, May 20, 2018, Mrs. Adele Cabernel of Holland, Manitoba passed away at the age of 90 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Albert; her children Carol (Michael) Baete and David; her grandchildren, Blair (Diane), Amanda (Matt) and Devon (Kayla); her great-grandson Cole.  She also leaves to mourn, her siblings, Marie-Louise Adam, Marguerite (Joe) Baete, Angele Fifi, Celine (Reynald) Lebeau, Robert (Jacqueline) Marginet and Annette (Albert) Wytinck; her brother-in-law and Remy (Angele) Cabernel; and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents Alberic Marginet and Louise (née Hutlet); her siblings, Alice, Roland, Raymond and Angeline; her in-laws, Clement Adam, Armand Fifi, Marcel (Julia) Cabernel and Gaston (Thérèse) Cabernel.

Adele was born on January 16, 1928. Loving animals she spent her days helping her dad on the farm north of Holland. When the family moved to the lumberyard she helped with getting lumber at Indian Springs, unloading and delivering. She enjoyed working at the Bruxelles Convent and after a hard day of work would spend time at the Lanouette Store where she would catch a glimpse of a “good looking Cabernel”. Much to her chagrin she found he did not like box socials, music and dancing which didn’t quite fit in with her musical family. Despite this they were married on October 6, 1953. After the hustle and bustle of a large family and customers coming to the lumberyard day and night she found it quite lonely, but soon adapted to milking cows, cooking, baking and cleaning, gardening and raising their two children.

Albert and Adele moved to Holland in 1986 and enjoyed 30 years of retirement together. At first they took several bus trips through out Western Canada and the United States. Every day was spent going for coffee, visiting with relatives, friends and neighbours and having people over for a game of cards until they were in their late 80’s. They never missed going once a week to the farm to see the grandchildren and play “bien”. Mom had also joined the hospital guild and church choir. Holland has such a special place in their hearts.

In Feb of 2015 Adele diagnosed with Parkinson, became very ill and moved into the Care Home. With the help of doctors, nurses and therapists she regained her strength and despite missing Albert enjoyed the many outings, activities, scrapbooking, phone calls and visits from friends and her close-knit family. Every weekend till Oct 2017 Albert and Carol took Adele for a “road trip”, to see friends, family, going for coffee or shopping and many times going to the farm. On her 90th birthday she enjoyed dancing with her sisters with music provided by family members. That day she commented “how lucky she was.” In February her Parkinson/dementia worsened and so even though we are sorry to see her go we are so thankful she is no longer suffering.
