Obituary

Alan Thornton
June 12, 1943 – September 19, 2018

Peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 with his wife and daughter by his side, Al passed into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Barbara; his children Len (Valerie) Thornton and Beth (Kevin) Braun.  He was a devoted Papa to Erika (Jacob) Murphy, Zoe Thornton, Riley Braun and Adara Thornton.  He will also be missed by his siblings; Ralph (Janet), Ron (Beverley), Robert (Jo-Anne), Cathy (Lynn) Beaudoin; his siblings-in-law Murray (Karin) Stovell and Glennis (Ernie) Giles, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Byron and Lillian Thornton, his sister Margaret McCutcheon, his parents-in-law Horace and Dorothy Stovell and brother-in-law Peter Stovell.

Al was a quiet man who lived out his faith in Jesus day by day.  He loved to study the scriptures and pray.  Next to the Lord, his most important focus was his family.  Being a husband, Dad and Papa gave him great joy.  He loved to work with his hands, could fix anything and gladly helped anyone who asked.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Rathwell Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.  A Private Family Interment will take place before the service at the Woodlands Cemetery (R.M. Norfolk-Treherne).

The family would like to thank the Foyer Personal Care Home staff for walking the journey of Lewy Bodies Dementia with us and giving Al such exemplary care.  We would also like to thank the staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their compassionate care of Al during his last week of life.  Also, a heartfelt thanks to our many friends and family who have been with us all the way.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba, Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba or a charity of one’s choice.
