Laurette Allard

Peacefully on February 24, 2019 at Charleswood Care Centre Laurette Emilia Allard, beloved wife of Laurent Allard, passed away at the age of 92.

Laurette was born on October 9, 1926 in Elie to Adonai and Angèle Bernardin. She is predeceased by her husband Laurent (1994), her son Jacques Allard (2005), her daughter Michelle Beaudin (2017) and her daughter-in-law Cathy Allard (2019).

Laurette is lovingly remembered by her children, Dennis, Sylvie (Ralph), Luc (Diane), Marie Anne (Bill), Véronique (Brian), Elisabeth (Ross) and son-in-law Florent Beaudin. She will be greatly missed by her 22 grandchildren and her 16 great-grandchildren.

Laurette was born and raised in Elie. She completed a secretarial course in St. Boniface and worked in a doctor’s office for a short period before marrying Laurent in Elie in 1945.

Laurette and Laurent settled on a farm on Lido Plage Road. Together they dedicated themselves to raising a family of eight children. As a mother and wife, Laurette spent hours gardening,  canning and freezing food, sewing and providing for her children. She was actively involved in community and parish life as well. Laurette served as a 4H leader, a choir director at the St. François Xavier Church and a catechist teacher at the St. Eustache school. 

Later in life Laurette continued her dedication to helping others. She was a volunteer for the Salvation Army at the Grace Hospital for over 25 years and served as an associate for the Missionary Oblate sisters for many years. Laurette knitted countless pairs of mitts and socks for the homeless, sewed blankets for Pregnancy Distress, and crocheted mats for the Humane Society. As a caring and devoted woman, her hands were never idle.

Laurette cherished time spent time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at many large and noisy family gatherings. Her strength of character and sharp sense of humour will be missed by all. Laurette’s faith in God was a guiding force in her life and was instilled in her children. 

Funeral Services will be at Elie Blessed Sacrement Church on Friday, March 1. Prayers at 10:00 am followed by a funeral mass with Abbé Michel Nault officiating. Interment at a later date at St. François Xavier Cemetery.
