Roger Godard

May 19, 2018

Roger Josaphat Godard

It is with profound sorrow that the family announces the peaceful passing of Roger Godard, of St. Claude, Manitoba., on Saturday afternoon May 19th at the Notre Dame Hospital at 78 years of age.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife Renée-Marie (Nénette) née Perchotte, his family: André (Maria), Marie (Ernesto), Linda (Gerry), Denis (Cynthia), Jean (Suzanne), his grandchildren: Sabrina (Karl), Tiffany (Justin), Marina (Jake), Nic, Natasha, Katana, Sara and Joe. He also leaves his sister Cécile (Henri) Cousin of Swan Lake, in-laws Marcel (Geneviève) Perchotte, Marguerite (Leo) Kundih, Odile (Lloyd) Thibert, Yvon (Marie) Perchotte, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Camille and Yvonne Godard née Doyon, his brothers-in-law Henri Cousin, Leo Kundih, Claude Perchotte and sister in-law Karen Perchotte.

Roger was born January 30, 1940 at home in Bruxelles, Manitoba. He attended Oak Hill School. He moved with his family to a dairy farm in St. Claude in 1956. He took a Diesel Mechanics course in Toronto, Ontario. In the fall of 1959, he moved with his parents to St. Boniface and worked at St. Boniface Canada Packers, Motor Parts rebuilding motors, Benjamin Construction and De Gagné Motor-Sobering Electric & Garage. He married Renée-Marie (Nénette) née Perchotte on December 27, 1960, and bought a farm at the end of May 1961 south of St. Claude where they raised their five children.

One of the passions in his life was playing the piano and accordion. He first started to play at the age of seven with his Dad’s music bands (Godard Music Band). For years he played with many different music bands all over the province, almost every weekend. In his later years he volunteered playing for care homes and was well known for his musical talent. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, farming and gardening. He cherished the family gatherings and playing cards. He was a firm believer in the AA program.

Funeral Services will be held at the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Memorial service at 1:30 followed by Funeral Mass at 2 pm with Father Alain Guenou officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Plains Cancer Care Portage, 318 E Saskatchewan Avenue, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba R1N 0K8
