Peacefully at the Notre Dame Foyer on Sunday, November 26, 2023, Mrs. Alida Chevalier of Swan Lake, MB passed away at the age of 87 years.

She leaves to mourn her children, Louise (Marc) Vigier, David (Melanie) Chevalier, Linda (Ward) Anticura, Stephen (Silke) Chevalier and son-in-law Mike Wonsiak; her grandchildren, Natalie (Ryan), Ian (Maggie), Stephan (Kaitlyn), Danielle (Jeff), Nick (Teagan), Sean (Maggie), Christian (Abby), Jordan (Gracie), Kevin (Justin), Matthias and Lucas; her great-grandchildren, Easton, Brooks, Hartley, Paxton, Elliette, Myla, Rae Leigh, Cale, Kasey, Dawson, Jaydis, Boden, Colter, Elowyn and Messer; as well as her brothers, sisters and in-laws, Ben (Joyce) De Beer, Jake (Alice) De Beer, Tom (Simone) De Beer, George (Sandi) De Beer, Gerry De Beer, Annie (Glen) Bernardin, Harry (Valerie) De Beer, Laura De Beer and Helmut Zeeuwen, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Maurice; her daughter Debbie Wonsiak; her parents Hendrikus and Maria De Beer and by her siblings and in-laws, Joe (Annie) De Beer, Jerry (Mary) De Beer, Hank De Beer, Gertie Zeeuwen, Gerardus De Beer, Johanna De Beer, Cathy (Egon) Schneider, Hans (Bev) De Beer, Debby De Beer, Evelyn (Hubert) Rigaux and John (Alice) Chevalier.

Alida was born April 10th, 1936 In Noorden, Netherlands. She was “lucky number 7” of 16 children. She came to Canada in 1952 at the age of 16. After arriving in Halifax by boat, they boarded a train and eventually settled in Swan Lake, Manitoba. In 1954 on an evening stroll with her sister, she met Maurice Chevalier and they married a few years later in 1958. She was so excited to become a Canadian and in 1959, alongside her brother Jake in Somerset, she was sworn in and received her citizenship. Together, Ali and Maurice had 5 children, and their family quickly grew to include 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was a proud farm-wife, always bringing out delicious meals to the field during seeding and combining. An avid crocheter, no grandchild would go cold with an afghan never far away, and no table would go bare with doilies in every room. She was an amazing gardener, master angler fisher-woman, and top notch baker & cook. Ali was seldom sitting still, whether it was a long walk down the lane and into town, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, biking with Opa, or walking on her treadmill in the dead of winter.

Oma and Opa were never far apart. Whether it was a short drive to watch a grandchild play hockey, or a flight to California to head to Disneyland. They also enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards or just sitting and watching tv together.

On November 26th, 2023, she was reunited with the love of her life. They will now be together in eternal rest.
