Edna was born at Sanford, Manitoba in 1920 and grew up helping her parents, Ferdinand and Emma, run the family farm. She moved to Winnipeg as a young adult and was employed for several years in the payroll department at Eaton's. In 1957, she married Orval Rice of Dacotah and together they farmed until 1978, at which time Edna and Orval retired to Elie.
Edna filled her retirement years with a very busy social calendar. She played bingo and cribbage on a regular basis and tremendously enjoyed attending old time dances around the district. In time, she became part of a larger group of fellow seniors of whom she was extremely fond and whose friendship she cherished dearly. Edna spoke frequently of these friends and was overjoyed when they all turned out to help celebrate her 85th birthday this past August.
