Edouard Lecocq

Peacefully at the Foyer Notre-Dame on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, Mr. Edouard Lecocq of Mariapolis, passed away at the age of 86 years.

Edouard leaves to mourn his passing, his sister Yvonne (Real) Prefontaine; his brother Francois Lecocq; and his many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Francois Lecocq and Emma (née Guilbert); his siblings, Lucie (Dollard) Brodeur, Germaine (Alcide) Desrochers, Simone (Steve) Kibzey and Jacqueline (Ken) Campbell.

Edouard Lecocq was born April 23, 1935 in Mariapolis, Manitoba.  He didn’t spend many years attending school, but he had a lifelong love for reading. He spent hours rewriting pages from books that interested him.  He recopied the Britannica Encyclopedia. He was interested in many subjects from countries around the world, to art, to ancient history and the royal family. He had a special love for the bible, and he owned many bibles. He collected maps of many municipalities. He had an amazing memory and could tell you the township/section/range numbers of farms of people he knew and most people in a wide area around Mariapolis. He remembered everyone’s names, birthdays and anniversaries. He was a farm worker in his younger years at the time when most farm work was done with a shovel and fork. He was a very strong person. Farmers would rush early to be the first to pick up Edouard to work for them. He picked many stones and stumps.

In his later years he took on his first steady job at the Mariapolis recycling depot. He crushed all the glass and kept the floors very clean. He visited his job site daily and carried out his duties as the need arose. He was very proud of himself and the whole community appreciated his efforts. Each year at the Seniors Christmas dinner we recognized his contribution. Edouard loved to play Balderdash and he was very good at it.

In 2016 a misstep at his front door left him with a serious shoulder injury, and he eventually was moved to live at the Notre Dame foyer where he slowly adjusted to commune living. He told his visitors that the meals were the best times of the day.

Rest in peace Edouard we will miss your expertise in many fields!!!!!
