Louis Lecoq

Peacefully, with family at his side, Louis Lecoq passed away at the Notre Dame Health Centre on Friday, May 30, 2008, at the age of 95.

He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, three daughters:  Noreen (Pete) Defer, Lucille (Joe) Lesage and Evelyn (Andre) Rheault, along with 15 grandchildren:  Steven (Nancy) Defer, Russell (Shannon) Defer, Marnie (Dan) Brost, Brenda Defer, Nicole (Jason) LeClair, Claire (Guy) Julien, Norman (Bridgette) Lesage, Lynne and Marc Lesage, Claudette (Brian) Pshebniski, Christiane (Vaughn) Hodson, Linda (Peter) Mary, Leanne (Tyler) Lovie, Roger and Andrea Rheault; 15 great-grandchildren:  Matthew, Nicole and Simon Defer, Emily and Duncan Defer, Analiese and Peter Brost, Janique and Jolyne LeClair, Rheanne and Paul Julien, Brett Lesage, Michael and James Pshebniski and Joshua Hodson.  He is also survived by two sisters-in-law:  Bertha Lecoq and Margaret Lecoq; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Louis was predeceased by his beloved wife Jeanne (Moreau) in 2002; six brothers and two sisters:  Antoine (Guillemine), George (Julia), Germaine (Ed) Devos, Henry, Maurice, Raymond, Cecile (Gerard) Lanouette.

Louis was born September 11, 1912 to Alphonse and Honorine (Nicholas) Lecoq in Bruxelles, MB.  He was educated at St. Urbain School, St. Alphonse and Swan Lake.  He received his Grade 11, unusual in those days as most students left school much earlier.  Louis was a good scholar, however, because he was a farmer at heart, he left school to farm with his father and brothers.

On November 15, 1941, Louis married Jeanne Moreau.  Together they farmed near Indian Springs before buying a farm in the Treherne district.  It was there that they raised their three daughters before retiring to Notre Dame de Lourdes.  Louis moved to the Foyer Notre Dame in June 2003 where he quickly made many new friends among residents and staff.

Louis was a quiet, gentle man with a great sense of humour.  He was skilled with his hands and his great-grandchildren still enjoy all the wooden toys and games he had made for previous generations.

Prayers will be said from Adam’s Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 8 p.m.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 4, 2008.  Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. preceded by recitation of the Rosary, eulogy and memorial video at 1:30 p.m. with Father Léon Mubikayi officiating.  Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
