Mark Labossiere
May 13, 1959 – April 12, 2025
Mark Labossiere passed away on April 12 at his residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 65 years old.
He is predeceased by his mother Angele Labossiere (nee Verdonck) and his brother-in-law, Dan Messner. He is survived by his father, Henri Labossiere, and his siblings, Jocelyne (Rick) Benoit, Kathleen (Dan) Messner and Charlene (Peter) Hensley.
From a young age, Mark was hooked on sports. He often came home from school on the bus, arms full of trophies from the latest school Sports' Day. He was also a lifelong fan of his beloved Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers. You never had to ask who was winning—Mark’s passionate yells and cheers could be heard throughout the house.
Mark had a sharp mind and a deep curiosity about the world. As a kid, he read encyclopedias for fun. If you had a question about war, world politics, or history, he was the one to ask. His intelligence, combined with a touch of eccentric flair, made him truly one-of-a-kind. He loved technology and the access it gave him to the endless questions his mind was always chasing.
He also loved returning to his roots in Somerset, taking long drives through the countryside with his camera in hand. Photography and writing were two of his greatest passions—he shared countless images with family and friends and in his Blog. He also had several “Letters to the Editor” published in the Winnipeg Free Press over the years.
No one loved Winnipeg quite like Mark. Whether walking, biking, or skating, he was always exploring and capturing the city through his lens.
Mark spent many years working at Manitoba Public Insurance. In more recent years, he found satisfaction working as a security guard with Commissionaires - Winnipeg, continuing to walk the streets of the city he called home.
Those who knew Mark well knew he had an on-going struggle with addiction. It was a part of his life that brought challenges, both for him and for those who loved him. But it doesn’t define him. He was also funny, smart, curious, and passionate—and he’ll be remembered for the way he showed up in the world, flaws and all.
In his honour, we invite you to share your photos and memories. It’s through these moments that Mark’s story continues.
