Alice Benoiton passed away peacefully in her 101st year, at mid-day Saturday, June 19th at the Foyer Notre-Dame in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba
Alice was born October 29, 1903. She was the eldest of a family of ten raised by David Girouard and Emma (Labossière) in Somerset, Manitoba. In 1997, spouse Benoît J., predeceased her in Montréal, where the family had moved to from Somerset in 1947. Son René and late spouse Moira, and grandchildren Danielle (& spouse David) of North Bay, and Gilles-Guy (& spouse Connie) are Edmontonians, while son Léo and spouse Ljuba reside in Ottawa. Daughters Paula, Janet and boy triplets died as babies in Somerset.
She is also survived by sister Melba (Patton) of Brandon, and was predeceased by sisters Berthe (Mardon) of Montréal, Dora (Dawe) of Toronto, Liliane of Somerset, Viola (Moreau) of Los Angeles, and brothers Lorenzo, Donald, Orlando & Roland, all of Somerset.
Among her memorable moments was the celebration of her 100th birthday last October at the rendezvous in Somerset, where she was greeted by relatives from throughout the continent.
Prayers will be held at Adam's Funeral Home on Tuesday June 22, 2004 at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame de la Nativité Church in Somerset, Manitoba on Wednesday June 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Father Célestin Malengu Mubaya officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
