Alice Fleury
Alice Fleury passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 80 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Raymond; her children Cindy (Andrew) Goertzen and Paul (Janis) Fleury; her granddaughters Ava and Kendra. She also leaves her sister Leonne (Jules) Normandeau, Irene (Rene) Vandendorpe; her in-laws Sandra Mouillierat, Edouard (Céline) Fleury, Marguerite (John) Peters and Bernice (Marc) Fleury, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter Maira Snow Fleury, her parents Normand and Ida Mouillierat, her parents-in-law Alfred and Estelle Fleury and her brother Denis Mouillerat.
Alice grew up in St. Boniface, moving to Calgary in her early 20s. In 1968 she came back to Winnipeg for a wedding, where she met Raymond. Ray proposed after a whirlwind two-week romance, leading to their marriage in August 1969. Alice & Ray made their home in St. Boniface and Alice started with Air Canada as a customer service agent, staying with the company until her retirement over 30 years later. In 1975 Alice and Ray moved to St. Francois Xavier, building a house designed to entertain visitors – a love of Alice’s – and welcoming their first child Cindy, followed by son Paul in 1979. In 2000 Alice and Ray moved into the St. James area of Winnipeg and in 2011 moved to the Fairmont Woods condominium complex in Charleswood. In 2023 Alice moved to the Sturgeon One Retirement Residence when Ray moved to West Park Manor.
Alice was known as a social butterfly and each move provided her a chance to develop new friendships that would last throughout her life. She was eager to engage in social and community activities such as helping to organize fall suppers in St. Eustache, hosting Air Canada employee parties, volunteering for their condo social committee and at Sturgeon One hosting Jets game night complete with wine and snacks. Alice loved to entertain large groups for dinner and was known for combining both old and new friends at events - you only had to meet her once to be considered her friend and worthy of an invitation. Alice enjoyed travel, especially when combined with friends and family, with her and Ray logging many trips both within Canada and abroad. Alice and Ray made a priority of spending time with their friends, rarely missing an opportunity for a Sunday breakfast or a coffee party. She was that rare person for whom many friends came into her life and very few dropped out of her life.
Alice was active in the Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, volunteering to bring communion to patients at Deer Lodge and Grace Hospital. For 22 years she was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League, joining shortly after moving to Winnipeg in 2000. Alice combined her love of volunteering and food through organizing the preparation and distribution of Christmas hampers and warm meals for homeless shelters.
Family, both immediate and extended, was central in Alice’s life. She had a remarkable ability to stay in contact with the large extended families of both her and Ray, and was excited to help organize a Fleury family reunion just this past summer. She took great joy in spending time at the cottage with family and especially enjoyed watching grandchildren Ava and Kendra playing on the beach. Alice deeply grieved the loss of her first granddaughter Maira and always kept a photo of her close.
As Alice’s health and capabilities declined over the last few months she continued to find joy in the expressions of her faith and her visits with friends and family, particularly time spent with her partner in life Ray. We will always cherish the memories of them together holding hands watching Jets games and listening to the Sunday afternoon concerts at West Park Manor. She will be deeply missed by the many who knew her.
