Anastasie (Zie) Marcelle Marie Hacault

February 28, 1985 -　November 27, 2017

With family at her side, Zie left this world to begin her heavenly journey.　 She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Philip Kaehler, parents Marcel and Georgina Hacault, siblings Anaïs (Chris Wiebe) and Yves (Daphne), niece Katelyn and nephew Danté, parents-in-law Susan and Norbert Kaehler, sister-in-law, Joanna Gisler (Kerry), Grandma Cameron, as well as aunts (Lucille Boettger, Alice Fontaine,　Stella Gaerke, Dianne Périard, Suzanna Klassen, Lynda Krahn, Shirley Peters, Kathleen Caswell, Linda Gibbons, Barbara Stark, Joyce Desrochers, Nancy Cameron), uncles (Don Reid, Antoine Hacault,　Francois Hacault, Ludger Hacault, Lawrence Dyck, Harvey Dyck, Peter Dyck, Blair Cameron, and Craig Cameron) and their families. She considered Nin and Bruno Morzelle and their son Jean as her second family, spending many summers with them in St. Gaudens, France.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Monica and Ben Hacault, maternal grandmother Tina Dyck, her paternal aunt Jeannine Reid, Elsa and Erwin Kaehler (Oma and Opa) and Bruce Cameron (Grandpa).

Graduating from École communautaire Real Bernard in 2003, Zie’s many awards including the Governor General’s Award. She graduated with a B. Sc. in international agri-business in 2007 and was recognized with the John Roth Memorial Award. The Douglas McRorie Scholarship, and the Canadian Dairy Commission Scholarship enabled her, in 2011, to complete a M. Sc. in agricultural economics.　 Following graduation, she worked for BASF as a Business Representative, and then Pulse Canada – first as a Manager of Market Access and Competitiveness and then as their Manager of Supply Chain Management. She joined the Univar family as their Business Manager in 2015. Zie frequently commented that she had the best bosses at Univar and that she was fortunate to enjoy the people with which she worked.

Zie’s warm smile, positive attitude, and sense of humour endeared her to all who had the opportunity to meet her. It was easy to find her in a crowd - all you had to do was listen for her infectious laughter. She was always willing to help and encourage others with her “it will all work out” attitude. Family and friends were important. She loved spending time with her younger cousins and catching up with her family over freshly baked bread and a good bottle of red wine at Sunday night dinners.

Zie and Phil shared a very special love story. They met in 2013 while Zie was undergoing chemotherapy. She could not have met a kinder, young man. Phil lovingly left gifts on her doorstep, if he could not be there in person, to help her get through rough chemo days. Refusing to let treatment get in the way, they enjoyed time together and travelled whenever the opportunity presented itself. Their mini-trips to roller coaster parks were the best and they loved exploring new cities to find the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Making each other laugh was important to them as were the special karaoke evenings with friends. The love between them blossomed; they were married on March 5, 2016 and renewed their vows in front of friends and family on July 16, 2016.

We would like to thank the Riverview Health Centre staff for their attentive, gentle care of Zie, as well as their care of our family; your kindness towards us, during her brief stay in palliative care, made her passage easier. Many thanks to the Cancer Care Manitoba team for Zie’s care during the past five years, as well as to family and friends for their ongoing support.

When dealing with brain cancer, she often joked about it as a “tiny, insignificant detail” in her life. Zie, you were never a tiny, insignificant detail in our lives. Our lives are all that much richer because you were a part of it. A bientÔt, ma belle - nous t’aimons beaucoup.
