It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister, niece and cousin, Andréa, on January 14, 2013 at the age of 72 years.

She leaves to mourn her brother Arthur Oliviero, aunts and uncles:  Marie Blanche Oliviero-Gobin (Raymond), Isabelle Oliviero, Lucienne Philippot, Joseph (Yvonne) Philippot, Nathalie Jacques, Adrienne Troisfontaines, Cecile Philippot, Louise (Aimé) Badiou, Raymond (Laurette) Philippot and numerous cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents André and Angèle Olivieo (née Philippot), sister Marie Louise, aunts and uncles: Marcel Oliviero, Antoine (Victorine) Dequier, Jean Oliviero, Charles Oliviero, Julien (Claire) Philippot, Charles Philippot, Alexis, Mariette and Josette Philippot, Isabelle Philippot, Arthur Jacques, José Troisfontaines and Henri Philippot.

Andréa was born on the family farm on November 15, 1940 in Saint-Claude, MB, the second child of André and Angèle Oliviero (née Philippot).  There, she grew up and spent most of her early adult life with her younger brother Arthur, who like her was visually impaired.  Andréa attended the Saint-Claude school until grade 4, after which, the lack of large character books required that she and her brother attend a school for the blind in Brantford, Ontario to continue their formal education and learn Braille.  Upon their return home two years later, they were tutored by a retired teacher, Mrs. Camille Rey.

In 1953, they suffered the tragedy of the sudden death of their mother.  Andréa was then only 13 years old.  Andréa and Arthur were blessed to have two servants, Florence Lippens and Josephine (Josie) Chevrier.  They showered them with tender love and care, and attended to their personal and housekeeping needs.

Eventually André sold the farm and moved into a new home they had built in Saint-Claude.  After the death of their father in 1981, Josie followed them and continued acting as their second mother until her own passing in 2006.  Minnie Cewick, Josie’s daughter, also spent much time supporting their needs.

Despite their handicap, they were able to continue living in their home with the help of their guardians, Henri and Cecile Philippot.  They always received much support from their relatives, friends and neighbours.  For reasons of declining health, Andréa had just moved in to the St. Claude T.C.U before her sudden passing.

Andréa and Arthur enjoyed many travels within Manitoba, various parts of Canada and the United States.  They traveled with their dad, and Josie also with Henri and Cécile Philippot, and on one occasion went to Montreal with their aunts Isabelle, Nathalie, Adrienne and Louise.

Andréa received a medal from the honourable Gary Doer for her 18 years of service at the Saint-Claude Pavilion.  She enjoyed many visits to the Pavilion as part of the Adult Day Program to help her good friend Josiane De Smet.  She enjoyed the simple things in life.  She loved children, music, beautiful clothes and fine cuisine.  But above all, she enjoyed family gatherings with the Oliviero, Dequier and Philippot families.

A good Christian, a Daughter of Isabella, Andréa was a shy, kind and loving person.  She was the little candle that shed a beautiful light in the hearts of all the people who came to know her.  Au revoir Andréa.

The family wishes to thank; Dr. Gisèle Viens, Mgr. Roger Bazin, Soeur Cécile, the private care staff, Homecare, the Pavilion staff, Henri and Cécile Philippot, Charlotte Hince, Dr. Hamilton and staff at the Notre Dame Hospital for the care they offered in Andréa’s stay with us.

Funeral Services will be held in the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.  Prayers and viewing at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. with Father Guy Lavallée officiating.  Cremation to follow with interment to take place in the Parish Cemetery at a later date.

C'est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre chère sœur, nièce et cousine, Andréa.

Andréa est née sur la ferme familiale le 15 novembre 1940 à Saint-Claude, MB, la deuxième enfant d'André et d’Angèle Oliviero (née Philippot).  C’est là qu’elle a grandi et a passé la plupart de sa vie de jeune adulte avec son jeune frère, Arthur. Les deux avaient un problème de vue affaiblie. Andréa fréquentait l'école de Saint-Claude jusqu'à sa 4ième année. Faute d’avoir accès aux livres à gros caractères, son frère et elle sont allés à une école pour les aveugles à Brantford, en Ontario pour poursuivre leurs études et apprendre le braille. Après deux ans ils sont revenus et ils ont pris des leçons en particulier avec une enseignante retraitée, Mme Camille Rey.

En 1953, ils ont été frappés par la tragédie de la mort subite de leur mère. Andréa n'avait alors que 13 ans. Andréa et Arthur ont eu la chance d'avoir deux servantes, Florence Lippens et Joséphine (Josie) Chevrier qui les ont comblés de tendresse et de soins, et répondu à leurs besoins personnels ménagers.

En 1980 André a vendu la ferme et ils ont déménagé dans une nouvelle maison qu'ils avaient fait construire à Saint-Claude. Après la mort de leur père en 1981, Josie a emménagé avec eux et elle est devenue comme une deuxième mère jusqu'à sa mort en 2006.  Minnie Cewick, fille de Josie, a aussi passé beaucoup de temps à répondre à leurs besoins.

Malgré leur handicap, ils ont pu continuer à vivre dans leur maison avec l'aide de leurs tuteurs, Henri et Cécile Philippot. Ils ont toujours reçu le soutien de leurs parents, amis et voisins. En raison de sa santé déclinante, Andréa venait d'emménager au Centre de transition de Saint-Claude avant sa mort soudaine.

Andréa appréciait les choses simples de la vie. Elle aimait les enfants, la musique, les beaux vêtements, et une cuisine raffinée. Mais avant tout, elle aimait les réunions de famille, les familles Oliviero, Déquier, et Philippot.

Une bonne chrétienne, Fille d’Isabelle, elle était timide, gentille et aimante. Elle était la petite bougie qui brillait d’une belle lumière chaleureuse dans le cœur de tous ceux qui l’ont connue.

La famille désire remercier : Dr Gisèle Viens, Mgr Roger Bazin, Sœur Cécile, tout le personnel des soins privés, de soins à domicile, du Pavillon, Henri et Cécile Philippot, Charlotte Hince, Dr Hamilton et le personnel de l’hôpital de Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes pour les soins prodigués à Andréa durant son séjour avec nous.
