Brian Stevens

With heavy hearts and much sadness, the family of Brian George Stevens announce his passing on August 15, 2022 at the age of 58 years.

Brian leaves to mourn his parents George and Diane Stevens, sister Loreen (Normand) Rheault, his brothers Darren and Dan (Shannon); his nieces and nephews Roselyne (Derron), Patrick (Brittany), Jennifer and Rebecca.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Arthur and Clementine Stevens and Jack Jansen and Mary Lukacz and step-grandfather Max Lukacz.

Brian was born on May 6, 1964, in Treherne, Manitoba and was the oldest son of George and Diane Stevens' four children. He attended St. Alphonse Elementary School and Notre Dame Collegiate Institute.

Brian had a love for nature and the outdoors. He was fortunate to grow up on the farm where he loved skidoo-ing, riding his motorcycle, going for a swim at Lake 7 and so many outdoor activities.

Brian was very bright academically, excelling in his studies. After high school he went to Lethbridge Community College where he studied Environmental Sciences. While he was there, he took up the sport arm wrestling, where he won a championship in 1985 in the lightweight division.

When he returned to Manitoba, he worked at Riding Mountain National Park as an Interpretive Naturalist. He also worked in a nursery at Hadashville. Later, he moved to Winnipeg where he began working for an arborist company. He become skilled in this line of work and decided to start his own company. With hard work and quality workmanship he built a successful business. In 2019, Brian was delighted to have his business featured in a special edition documentary magazine of the Winnipeg Free Press. He was proud of all that he built and accomplished.

Brian loved to experience the fun side of life. He recently purchased a vintage convertible Corvette and enjoyed taking his friends out for a Sunday cruise in the summer. Brian’s passion was to explore and travel. He went on numerous trips from his first trip to Hawaii with his high school friends, to Barbados, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, the Panama Canal, and several other Caribbean Islands.

In 2017, Brian and his brother Darren took the trip of a lifetime to Italy, exploring the magnificent churches, culture and history, Brian took a keen interest in this and wanted to explore more of Europe. Making memories was important to Brian. He took many pictures and videos. He purchased a home in Winnipeg and enjoyed having friends and family over often hosting a party or Christmas gatherings. He enjoyed taking his parents to some of the tourist spots such as the museum and casinos.

Brian’s other passions were hunting and fishing, spending many weekends at Pelican Lake ice fishing with his uncle Garry. Brian loved being on the water and decided to purchase a lot there. This was to be his “dream” retirement. His cottage was nearly built when his illness overtook him and sadly, he didn’t get to realize his dream. His will to live was strong but God had other plans. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend and will be truly missed.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Health Sciences Centre for their exceptional care during Brian’s illness; and many heartfelt thanks to Brent Andrest and Shawna Dobson for their companionship and care during Brian’s final days.

A Come and Go viewing will be held at Adam’s Funeral Home on Tuesday August 23, 2022, from 5 pm to 7 pm followed by a Prayers Service.

A Private Graveside service will be held in St. Alphonse Parish Cemetery.
