Peacefully with her family by her side, at the St. Claude Health Centre on Saturday January 15, 2022, Mrs. Cassie Sinclair passed away at the age of 97 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Robert (Arlene), Betty (Ronald LeGras), Debbie (Paul Piché), Clifford (Lucille), Cathy (Phil Jackson) and one son-in-law Louis Piché; her grandchildren Vicki (Cole), Matthew, Troy (Michelle), Aimé, Ryan (Marina), Kristina (Elom), Amanda (Greg), Trevor and Devon (Meghan); and her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Cole, Madison, Coralie, Lincoln, Makayla and Zoe; her special friend Marie Delf, as well as numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Harold Sinclair, her son Steven Sinclair, her daughter Valerie Sinclair, her great-granddaughter Ava Sinclair and her parents Nykyfor and Sofia Kucharski.
Mom was born on December 7, 1924 in Rathwell, Manitoba. She was one of 15 children born to Nykyfor and Sofia Kucharski.
She was a very hard worker all her life. She was a farmer and worked at various jobs until she became a health care aide, which she worked until she retired. Even with all the work she did in a day she always found time to have fun. She loved to dance and listen to old time music. She took her children as well as anybody who wanted to go down to the river to fish. She also brought her children to many activities such as swimming lessons and 4H.
Mom enjoyed the outdoors. When summer came, she was always off somewhere, often heading to Gardenton to spend time with her sister Lena. She really enjoyed being outside in her garden, flower bed or yard and made sure to dig out ever dandelion or weed that tried to grow. She loved making borscht and perogies, and always shared these with family and her many friends. Mom enjoyed picking saskatoons, strawberries, blueberries and morels. She was always the fastest picker and seemed to be able to spot morels that the rest of us had just walked by. She went fishing and camping every summer until a couple years ago. Bingo in Rathwell and St. Claude, gambling at the casinos and old-time dances were some of Mom’s other passions. Later in life Mom spent her time during the winter watching curling, doing embroidery and reading every newspaper or book she could as she was not a fan of the cold.
Many trips were made to Fairholme Colony visiting or picking strawberries and participating with them. She enjoyed the visits from the Behr family from New Rosedale Colony. Due to COVID she missed visiting everyone.
Mom had a sharp mind and always kept up with the latest news. She was a strong person both in body and mind, but had a gentle side and helped anyone who needed.
We would like to thank Colleen and Claude for taking mom to music festivals, TJoe for the pickerel, Liz for the homemade soup and to all the others who were so kind to our Mother.
Special thanks to Dr. Gosselin and all the doctors and nursing staff in Notre Dame de Lourdes and St. Claude for the excellent care given to mom and to Adam’s Funeral Home for their compassionate care.
