Cécile Geirnaert

Cecile Geirnaert of Somerset, Manitoba passed away peacefully at the Portage Hospital on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the age of 82 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Michael Geirnaert (Lisa) and her daughter Cheryl Evoy and her grandchildren, Crystelle, Michael Jr and Kendra. She is also survived by her sister Marguerite Lecoq, her brother George (Diane) Stevens and her sisters-in-law, Denise Le Néal, Doreen Geirnaert and Yvonne Geirnaert as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Cecile was predeceased by her husband Lucien Geirnaert in 1997 and by her first born, Marie in 1966; her parents Arthur and Clementine Stevens, her parents-in-law Urselin and Dora Geirnaert, as well as her sisters Madeleine (Maurice) Cabernel and Evelyn (André) Timmerman and brothers-in-law, Raymond Lecoq, Antoine Geirnaert, Mervin Geirnaert and Armand Le Néal.
Cecile Marguerite Josephine Stevens was born March 16, 1941 at St. Alphonse, Manitoba. She married the love of her life, Lucien Geirnaert and they lived in St. Léon. She gave birth to her three children there and then they moved to Altamont where they raised their two surviving children. She babysat and kept house for various people in Altamont. She then started working at the Somerset Villa, which she thoroughly enjoyed. In 2012 she moved to the Somerset Manor where she made many friends. She loved to walk, dance and garden and her bun baking abilities were beyond compare.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Notre Dame de la Nativité Church in Somerset, Manitoba. Eulogy and video tribute will start at 1:30 pm followed by Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm. A private interment will be held at the Altamont Cemetery.
