CELINA LIPPENS (NEE DE SMET)

1922- 2022

Surrounded by the love and prayers of her family that she loved so dearly, Celina Lippens, beloved wife of the late Gerard Lippens, gave us her final Belgian Goodbye and entered peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at the age of 100 years, three months and four days at the Glenboro Health Center.

Left to mourn her passing and to cherish her loving memory are her devoted children, Gary (Lorraine) Lippens, Denise (Glen) Walleyn and Michael (Brenda) Lippens; cherished grandchildren, Rick (Tiffany) Lippens, Sherri (Curtis) Johnson, Tanis (David) Nicholson, Raegen (Jonathan) Bauch, Adam (Meghan Kelly) Walleyn, Ainsley (Travis) Rintoul, Miranda (Jean-Paul) Hutlet, Lindsey Lippens, Leanne Lippens and Lucinda (Troy) Alarie; precious great-grandchildren, Emma Lippens, Jeremy, Shaylyn (Tom Coutts), and Connor Johnson (Kasidee Dunn), Kaitlyn, Christian and Aiden Nicholson, Isla Walleyn, Alexander, Ella, Georgia and Jackson Rintoul, Elijah, Isaac, Avea, Benjamin and Nicholas Hutlet, Jordyn and Luke Lippens, and Haylee and Scarlett Alarie; and her dearest sister and lifelong best friend, Clarice Wytinck; her sister-in-law Gerarda Jefferies; as well as many dear nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.

She was predeceased by her husband Gerard in 2006;  her parents, Octaaf  De Smet, Marie (nee Mattheeuws) and step-dad Henri Martens; her parents-in-law, Bernard Lippens and Leontine (nee De Kezel); her siblings and in-laws, Renilda (Achiel) De Pauw, Helen (Maurice) Martens, Leon (Elizabeth) De Smet, Albert (Clara) De Smet, Maurice (Madeleine) De Smet, Marcel Wytinck, Richard (Ruth) Lippens, Marie-Louise Lippens, Leonard (Florence) Lippens, Medard Lippens, Lucien Adam and Lorne Jefferies.

Our Mother, Grandmother and Meetje was a woman of deep faith and prayer who faced her many challenges with dignity, grace, and a quiet but truly profound strength. Being struck by polio and partial paralysis, as well as several other significant lower limb breaks throughout her life, she completely re-learned to walk no less than four times. Despite dealing with such great adversity in her life, while maintaining the daunting responsibilities of being a hard-working farmer's wife and mother, she faced each day with a sincere smile and with a genuine enthusiasm for the simple joys in life: good food, the thrill of a rousing game of cards, fun times spent with family, friends and neighbours, and mostly, cherished times with the four generations of the family she created, loved, nurtured, supported, prayed for, and lived for, each day of her life. In her final days, she truly emptied herself of all her strength, as she poured every ounce of love out of her strong and loving heart to remain with all of us, her family, for as long as she possibly could. Mom, Grandma and Meetje, thank you for every blessing you have given to each one of us by being the loving, kind, devoted, and faithful woman that you were and have always been for over 100 years of a truly epic life! You have run your race and now it is time to run like a deer. Well done, Good and Faithful Servant. May Songs of the Angels welcome you and guide you along your way. May the smiles of the Martyrs greet your own, as darkness turns into day. Every fear will be undone, and death will be no more, as Songs of the Angels bring you Home before the Face of God!
