With great sadness, we announce the passing of Denise Valentine Talbot (née De Ruyck) on December 29, 2021 at the age of 74. She left this world the way she lived in it, surrounded by family.

Denise will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years Denis, her daughter Bonnie Talbot (Meir Serfaty); siblings Valere (Lois) De Ruyck, Leonard De Ruyck (Petrice Juryn), Dianne (Miro) Gawinski, and Audrey De Ruyck (Brad Nelson) as well as her brothers and sisters in-law, Adrienne (Albin) Lebeau, Antoinette Bugera, Monique Ahle, Emile Cenerini, Claude (Marilyn) Talbot, Linda Talbot and Suzanne (Rod) Boudreau and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Remi and Jeanne (nee Deschouwer) De Ruyck, her sisters, Lorette De Ruyck and Doris De Ruyck and by her in-laws, Marcel (Rose) Talbot, Léopold (Rita) Talbot, André (Thérèse) (Anna) Talbot, Gérard (Marie-Louise) Talbot, Robert Talbot, Roger Labossiere, Tony Ahle, Agnes Cenerini and Aurèle Talbot.

Denise was born to Remi and Jeanne De Ruyck on January 9, 1947, and grew up on the family farm near Mariapolis, Manitoba. Denise was the eldest child and took on many responsibilities in caring for her parents and younger siblings as they grew up. She married Denis Talbot and they had a daughter, Bonnie.

Denise lived in Brandon for over forty years, and during that time made many valuable contributions to her community. For many years, she enjoyed working federal, provincial, and municipal elections, and she wasn’t one to shy away from discussions on politics. Denise was an enthusiastic driver’s education instructor, and would often tell stories of how rewarding it was to see her students learn new skills so quickly.  She also worked as a child-care provider for two children whom she loved as family. During her spare time, Denise was a long-time volunteer for the Brandon Festival of the Arts, and a talented gardener whose yard was always lush and blossoming. Denise loved reading, and she and Denis instilled this passion in their daughter.

In 2017 Denis and Denise retired to Somerset, Manitoba. During these years, Denise needed increasing assistance, and Denis was a tireless and compassionate care-giver to her. Denise later moved to the Pembina-Manitou Personal Care Home, where Denis and her family were a constant presence in brightening her days and offering valued support.

Thanks to the staff at Pembina-Manitou Personal Care Home who offered care and compassion.

Private Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Eulogy and Video at 10:30 am followed by Mass at 11 am.
