At his residence on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, Edward Walker of the Swan Lake First Nation passed away at the age of 45 years.
Edward leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his mother, Mary; sisters, Alice, Alvina (Dennis), Florence (Kelly), Kathy, Judy (James), Carolyn, Shelley (Kevin); brothers, Tom (Linda), Brian (Angie); numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Predeceased by his father, Thomas Walker Sr.; brother, Tony; sister, Agnes; grandparents, Frank and Maggie Walker, and Jim and Maizie French.
Edward was born and raised in Glenboro, Manitoba. Following his father's passing, the family relocated to Swan Lake First Nation. It was during this time in his young life that he was one of eight children apprehended from the French family. The Lipscomb family from Bloomington, Indiana later adopted Edward and his brother Tom. While in the USA, he graduated from Edgewood High School and later trained to become a certified welder.
During the early 80's, Edward returned home and reunited with his birth family. It was on Swan Lake First Nation that he spent the remaining years of his life. The family remembers him as enjoying life to the fullest and always willing to help those in need. He showed great devotion and caring towards his nieces and nephews and developed a special relationship with Terrence and Caitlin. He enjoyed the many family gatherings during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and birthdays. He was an avid sports fan and could be found watching the finals in basketball, baseball, football and hockey.
A Traditional Wake Service will be held in the Swan Lake First Nation Community Hall on Monday, May 29, 2006 at 4 p.m. A Traditional Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment in the Indian Springs Cemetery.
