Emile Francois Leon Mangin

1928 –2009

Our family is very sorry to announce that Emile Francois Leon Mangin passed away on December 28 th , 2009. Born in Bruxelles, on the family farm, Emile lived on the farm until his mother died when he was seven.  He then spent two years living in the Village of Bruxelles before moving to the farm when his father remarried.  He was a skilled and hard worker, helping out with finances at a very early age.  He also passed the time making mischief and having fun with his siblings and cousins.

He married Marie-Reine Bisson in 1951 and they settled on the farm where he was born.  He worked hard on the mixed farm, and as a carpenter to provide for his nine children.  The family moved to Brandon in 1974 for one year, but quickly decided they missed their home town.  So, they returned to Bruxelles, and purchased the original farmstead where his father was born, living there for ten years.  In 1986, the couple moved to Treherne. He retired in 1993.

Emile was very proud of his family.  He worked long hours to make sure that the family had everything that they needed.  He taught his children to love music, education, and nature.  He showed his sons how to hunt responsibly.  He protected his girls, and cried tears of joy and pain, when each of his children married.  No matter what scrape his children managed to get into, he forgave us, and continued to love us.  When asked, Emile would tell us that his greatest accomplishment was his children, and his most prized possession his love for his wife and family.

His children include:  Eveline Mauws (Jerome), Lorraine Fouasse (Charles), Denis Mangin (Evelyn), Lucille Robert (Charles), Marcel Mangin (Denise), Jeanne Gibson (Wayne), Maurice Mangin (Kathy), Paul Mangin (Jacqueline), and Andre Mangin (Lori).  He generously accepted the in-laws into the family and loved them like his own children.  He leaves 26 grandchildren and partners and 20 great grandchildren whom he enjoyed very much.

Emile was a great friend, loyal and helpful.  The grandchildren loved to climb onto his lap and cuddle.  He had strong morals, and tried to do right by everyone.  He attended church regularly and his deep faith had a significant impact on his children.  He was very honest and generous.

Emile was very proud of his tractor, the “little red pony”.  He had a lot of fun cultivating the soil at Lucy’s farm.  He loved to help out his children on their farms, organizing the planting of the family gardens, making sure the rows were neat and exactly straight.  He worked harder than most, and it was a challenge keeping up with him even when he was in his late seventies.  He helped with the housework and loved to cook a special meal for his visitors.

So, we say goodbye with many tears.  We won’t be able to rub the silver bullet anymore.  We won’t be able to share our joys and worries, or hug our dad anymore.  He’s gone to the heavenly reward he richly deserves.  We know he will continue to watch over us and will greet us with a wonderful smile when we join him.

He wanted to thank all the doctors and nurses for their heartfelt care, especially Dr. Harris and Dr. Vorster.  Dad truly appreciated Central Plains Cancer Care’s assistance in the last years of his life and specifically Josie Robinson’s compassion. Friends may honour his memory by making a donation to that organization.

Funeral Services will be held in the Bruxelles Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, December 31, 2009. Viewing and Prayers at 1:30 followed by Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm with Father Paul Bisson officiating.   Interment in the Bruxelles Parish Cemetery.

Adam’s Funeral Home of Notre Dame, Manitoba in care of arrangements.  Phone 248-2201 or 1-888-400-2326.  www.afh.ca
