Emile George Richard
October 21, 1920 – December 8, 2009
Peacefully with his loving family by his side, Emile passed away at Treherne Hospital at 89 years of age after a courageous battle with PSP.
Emile will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Aurore (née Beaudry), his children Albert (Thérèse), Anita (William), Lucille, Denis ( Simonne), Gisèle (Edmond) and Norman (Laura). He also leaves 14 grandchildren: Brigitte (Marcus), Pierre (Chinatsu), Michelle (Jamie), Richard (Cindy), Renée, Sabrina, René, Paul, Robert, Danielle (Kyle), Lianne, Robert, Nathalie and Taylor and great-granddaughter Sophie. He is also survived by his sister Thérèse Lalonde and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Emile was predeceased by his son Maurice in 1993 and his siblings Arthur, Léo and Germaine.
Emile spent his early years in Haywood, Manitoba and later moved to St. Claude where he owned and operated a service station garage and restaurant with his wife and family. Throughout his life and after retirement Dad used his skills to repair and build almost anything. He always loved music, especially the violin and was a wonderful dancer.
Dad was a kind and loving person of great integrity who always placed others before himself. He took great pleasure in helping others and was known for his easygoing, appreciative nature.
Emile’s happiest moments were spent at home with his wife and family.
All who knew him will miss his gentle disposition, kindness, strength of spirit and sense of humour. At the end of his life his courage and acceptance of his illness was an inspiration to his family. Words cannot express our love and gratitude.
Funeral Mass to celebrate Emile’s life will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 11:00 am at the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church in St. Claude, Manitoba. Interment will take place at a later date.
Special thanks to the medical staff at Treherne Hospital for their compassionate care during Dad’s final hours.
