Flora Dyer (Ironside)

February 28, 1928 -  April 9, 2025

It is with sad hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Flora McDonald Dyer (Ironside) on April 9, 2025 at Foyer Notre Dame in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba.

Flora was born to James and Annie Ironside on February 28, 1928 on a farm in the RM of Saskatchewan near Rivers, Manitoba.

She grew up on the family farm in the Oakleigh District, attending school in Oakleigh from Grades 1-9 and then Rapid City for high school.  She received her teaching permit and taught for a year in Middlebro, Manitoba then worked at the Bank of Commerce in Brandon until she returned home to help out with the family.

She met and then married Leslie Dyer in 1949, establishing their farm on SW 13-12-22 in the RM of Daly.

Mom worked on the farm, tended her garden and spent many hours knitting, sewing and later in life golfing, painting and quilting. She was an excellent cook and made soups, biscuits, bread and butter tarts well into her 90s.

In her spare time Mom was a member of the Lothair Daly Guild, taught 4-H and spent endless hours chauffeuring us kids to and from our many activities.  Mom also loved spending time with her grandchildren as they came along and then later her great grandchildren and always had a story or two to share about them.

After Les retired, they spent the winters in their winter home in Arizona. Throughout retirement they traveled across Canada and the United States, some on their own but also on various bus tours where they made many new friends.

In 2011 Flora and Les moved to Lions Manor in Brandon where Mom liked to play pool and made some very lasting friendships. In August 2023, after a fall, Mom was moved to the care home near her daughter in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba.

Flora is survived by her children; Richard (Bev), Cheryl (Andre Vigier), Ian (Lorrie*), seven grandchildren; Carrie (Chris Schepp), Scott, Tanis (Jason Laing), Tavis (Tahnea Battle), Dylan (Leiah), Danielle (Jeremy Laferriere), Taryn (Cam Claeys) and 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel, Doreen, Joanne and Heather.

Flora was predeceased by her husband Leslie, her parents; James and Annie Ironside and her daughter in-law; Lorrie*, brothers; Jim, Les, Ron, Willy, and David, sisters; Evelyn, Muriel and Shirley.

Cremation has taken place, and a private interment will be held in the Rivers Cemetery and family will gather to celebrate her life.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Foyer Notre Dame for their kindness and wonderful care.
