George Bernardin
With great sadness, we announce the passing of George Bernardin on September 26, 2015 at the age of 77.
He was predeceased by his little angel – Christine (Poodle), at the age of 5 (1972), his parents Adonai (1989) and Angele (Dupuis) Bernardin (1968).
George is survived by his loving wife Claire (Chabot) of 55 years, his children: Rachelle (Brian) Nadeau, Paulette (Don) Puddifant, Dean (Nadine) Bernardin, and his grandchildren: Janelle (Toby Hodgson), Kara, Kailyn, Brendon, Easton, Emme and Cohen.
George worked as a contractor for many years and built homes, schools, churches, senior homes and arenas in The Pas, Norway House, and Thompson. He then worked at the White Horse School Division as Supervisor of Maintenance and Transportation for 25 years until he retired. George had very strong work ethics, and instilled these in his children and grandchildren.
He loved his family and he was always so proud of all of their accomplishments. They all loved to see their Père/Dad smile and will miss him deeply.
During his life he had many friends. He was known to always have a joke and to make people laugh. He loved gardening, fishing, and hunting – especially at his farm in Riding Mountain National Park.
After a 10-year battle with thyroid and lung cancer, he left us peacefully at the Portage District General Hospital with his family by his side.
In tears we saw you sinking,
We watched you fade away,
You suffered much in silence,
You fought so hard to stay.
So when we saw you sleeping,
So peaceful, free from pain,
We could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
Thank you to his loving sister, Marthe, who was always by his side to care for him. Thank you to the compassionate staff at the Portage District General Hospital. We will never forget the loving care he received in his final hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Blessed Sacrament Elie Cemetery.
