It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother, Georgette Atkins of St. Claude, Manitoba. She passed away at her residence on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the age of 83 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Lynn (Clem) Gobin, John Atkins and Janet (Richard) Rey; her grandchildren, Maggie (Darryl), Joel (Lynn), Melanie (Adam) and Michel (Carley); her great-grandchildren, Chloe, Austin and Skylar. She also leaves to mourn her siblings, Odile Bourrier, Marguerite (Henri) Dacquay and Henri (Laurette) Lacroix; her brother-in-law Garry Genaille, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard Atkins; her parents, Georges Lacroix and Angeline (née Hamel); her siblings, Marie-Ange (Joseph) Ricard, Anita (Rene) Ricard, and Monique Genaille; and by her brother-in-law Edouard Bourrier.
Family always came first with Mom, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was always there for her brother and sisters. She would help them whenever they needed her.
Mom enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, crafting with her grandchildren and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She took sewing lessons and became an accomplished seamstress using this skill as a 4 H leader. She also took a cake decorating course and enjoyed baking cakes for family birthdays and special occasions. Mom loved baking something every day and trying new recipes. She was a great cook, even made her own chocolates, and enjoyed providing special dishes for family and friends.
Mom was a member on numerous committees in the community which included the Lioness Club, the Agricultural Society, the Residence and Hall. She worked bingos and cooked turkeys and made her famous delicious pies for the Fowl Supper for many years. Her generosity for the community was evident in her countless donations to various organizations over the past years.
Mom also found time to work in Winnipeg as a live in helper and later at Emile Jobin s grocery store. She also worked at Ray and Albert s restaurant and the Commercial Hotel restaurant as a cook and waitress for several years. Mom will always be loved and missed by us all.
