Peacefully at the Treherne Hospital on Saturday, November 15, 2014, Mr. Gerald Chatel of St. Claude, Manitoba passed away at the age of 76 years.

Gerald is survived by Elaine, his loving wife of 42 years; two sisters Hugette (Roger) Arbez of Winnipeg, and Edith (George) Arbez of Nanaimo, BC. He also leaves to mourn Elaine’s family, three sisters: Gloria Kucharsky, Pat (Ed) Wilchek and Joanne (Geoff) Gard; three brothers: Maurice (Pauline) Lapointe, Ron (Marion) Lapointe and Larry Lapointe; special cousin Louis (Norma) and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Marcel Chatel and Marie (née Augert).

Gerald was born in St. Claude, Manitoba on June 1, 1938. He was an electrician by trade until he purchased the Macleod’s store from Clement Bernard and continued his business until he retired in 2003. They enjoyed camping and travelling to the cottage in Kenora. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the St. Claude Pavilion and the Treherne Hospital for their care, kindness and compassion.  Also special thanks to Gerry’s companion, Celine Gauthier.

Prayers will be held at Adam’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Parkinson’s Society, the St. Claude Pavilion or to a charity of choice.
