Germaine, a twin girl was born June 24, 1923 near Bruxelles, Manitoba. She attended school at the Bruxelles Convent. On October 30, 1947 she married Eugene Gagnon, and they settled down farming and raising their four children in the St. Alphonse district. They operated a mixed farm . Germaine loved the farm and the dairy cattle. She always had many flower beds and a huge garden which she would share her produce with everyone around. In 1985 Germaine & Eugene retired to Swan Lake.
Germaine enjoyed and loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League in St. Alphonse and Swan Lake. She would also volunteer in many community organizations. Germaine had many varied interests besides her gardening and flowers, she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, reading and coffee parties with friends. She loved visiting family, friends, and neighbours. When company came over, the card game Bien was most often played. Germaine was interested in only one sport, curling which she would watch on TV. She depended on her family to phone her when curling was on and which channel it would be on. In 2009, Germaine and Eugene’s health deteriorated and they moved to the care home in Notre Dame, Manitoba. Germaine loved socializing and even in the foyer she would not miss an activity or outing. She also would never miss the daily rosary in the chapel. She made good friends with all the health care workers and they became like family to her.
The family would like to greatly thank the staff at Notre Dame Foyer for the care and compassion Mom received.
