Peacefully at the Swan Lake Hospital on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, Gerry Brunel of Bruxelles and Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba passed away at the age of 66 years.
Gerry leaves to mourn his two daughters, Sarah Ketsman (Darcy) of Bruxelles and Julie Brunel (Dave) of Virden; three grandchildren, Manon, Miller and Hank; three brothers, Larry (Lillian), Moe (Betty) and Bobby Brunel; and one sister-in-law Yvette Brunel. He also leaves to mourn the Carels’ family, the Lake 7 crew and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Leon and Marie (née Berard); one brother Albert Brunel; and Floran Carels.
Gerry Brunel was a very kind, gentle man who always put others before himself. Gerry had two main passions in his life; sports and his family. He was often found at the hockey rink or ball diamond playing, coaching, or cheering for his daughters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Gerry had an amazing memory when it came to sports stats which was often the fuel for his conversations. Gerry cherished every moment that he had with his family. From playing hockey with his brothers, to teaching his grandchildren silly games, Gerry's infectious personality kept everyone smiling! Gerry's two daughters meant the world to him. He was constantly concerned that the girls made it to every hockey and ball practice safely, that their cars were running top notch and that they were informed daily about the local and global sports stats. Gerry will be missed by everyone who met him. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Prayers and Eulogy at 1:30, Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the Parish Cemetery with Father David Brabant officiating.
