Gladys Sparling (née Catte)

Gladys Sparling, passed away peacefully at the Tiger Hills Health Centre on October 25, 2025 at the age of 97 years.

She is survived by her children, Wendy (John) Semenowich and Keith (Pat) Sparling; her grandchildren, Tracy (Colin) Merkel, Don Semenowich, Rob (Ria) Semenowich, Jeremy Sparling (Lisa Capar), Allison (Ryan) Swain and Wray (Kim) Sparling; and her great-grandchildren, Annika, Kane, Corbin, Lydia, Alena, Edwin, Peter, Anderson, Ella and Everly, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband Ronald Sparling, her parents Walter and Dora Catte, her brothers Newton Catte and Bill (Violet) Catte.

Gladys was born in 1928, to Walter and Dora (nee Hughs) Catte. She grew up on the family farm in the Norquay district with her two brothers Newton and Bill. In 1947, she married Ronald Sparling, they settled on a farm south of Treherne, then later, to the Matchettville district where they raised their two children, Wendy and Keith. Gladys was a member of the Matchettville UCW and the Matchettville Hospital Guild. Friends and family were always welcome at their home. Her family was her central to her life. Gladys had learned to play piano at a young age, and played for many dances, with Ron playing guitar at her side. As time went on, they entertained at personal care homes in the area and in the Treherne Friendship Centre.

Funeral Services will be held at the Treherne United Church on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live streamed at www.afh.ca.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
