Gordon John Reid Delf

Peacefully on Monday June 17, 2024, Gordon Delf passed away at Kelowna General Hospital, at the age of 88 years.

Gordon was predeceased by his father Albert, his mother Azile, his sister’s Marjorie Henry and Muriel Seddon, his brother’s Ernest and Kenneth, and his wife Margaret. He leaves daughters, Kimberley (Brian) Robertson, Tanis (Willie) Warner, Lucie (Ralph) Herbert, and son, Brian (Candice) Delf.

Gordon was born in Winnipeg, and lived on a farm in the Indianford District, near Rathwell, Manitoba. In 1944, the family moved to Winnipeg, and he had many happy memories of his youth, as well as meeting his future wife, Margaret, who he married in 1958.

One of his first jobs, was at Safeway in Winnipeg, which he always spoke highly of. Later he took a job with Northstar Oil, which later became Shell Canada. He worked at the St Boniface Refinery in Winnipeg Manitoba, until transferring to Scotford Refinery in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. He worked for Shell Canada for 37 years and retired in Kelowna, BC in 1993.

Gordon loved to shoot and was an excellent marksman at a young age. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter, and curler. After moving to Kelowna, he developed a love for golf and enjoyed many rounds throughout western Canada. His true passion was duplicate bridge, in which he played many international tournaments. He always wanted to grow the game, and when his age became a hinderance to attending in-person events, he played online bridge and enjoyed that his opponents were from all over the globe.

Gordon will be missed greatly. As per his wishes, there will be no service, just a simple cremation.

A private committal service was held at the Woodlands Cemetery near Rathwell, Manitoba on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
