Guy est de nouveau avec sa chère Janine. Il nous a quitté le matin du 19 décembre 2022 en écoutant Andrea Bocelli dont lui et Janine avaient beaucoup aimé les chansons. Dans une photo de mariage, ces jeunes de 18 et 19 ans apparaissent sur les marches de l'église par un mercredi matin très venteux d'octobre 1950, chapeau et voile volant, les yeux débordant d'amour et de joie. C’est un regard précieux qui apparaît au fil des années.

Guy et Janine ont commencé leur vie ensemble à Cardinal avant de déménager à la ferme où ils ont élevé leur famille en transmettant le respect et soin de la terre, la valeur du travail assidu, et le dévouement à la famille et à l'éducation. Comme mari, Guy était en avance sur son temps dans le soutien qu'il a donné à son épouse Janine lorsqu'elle a quitté la maison en 1970 pour suivre une formation d'infirmière. Comme père, il a donné à ses enfants ce qu'il avait voulu pour lui-même: la chance de découvrir le monde et de trouver leur propre voie, quelle qu'elle soit.

En 1974, Guy et Janine ont déménagé à l'extérieur de Winnipeg où il a travaillé pour le Service des Parcs. Bien qu’il ait laissé la ferme entre les mains dévoués et capables d'André et de Cheryl, Guy était heureux de revenir après sa retraite pour des séjours d'été où il jardinait, aidait dans les champs, et visitait avec les petits-enfants, Tavis et Dylan tout près, David venant de Winnipeg, et Rebecca, Sarah, et Emma des États-Unis. Quand l'automne arrivait, Guy et Janine partaient pour des voyages au Mexique, en France, au Texas, à Hawaï, en Floride, en Californie et à New York où il aimait se promener dans les rues de la ville avec Janine et assister à des spectacles de Broadway et de l'opéra. Une année, il eut même le grand plaisir d'un match de baseball au Yankee Stadium avec son frère Gérald et sa belle-soeur Huguette.

Guy laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Charlotte (Don Segal*), Rachel (David Koosis), Guy (Thuy) et André (Cheryl); petits-enfants David (Angelmarie), Rebecca, Sarah et Emma, Tavis (Tahnea), Dylan (Leiah), arrière-petits-enfants Alec et Flora; son frère Gérald (Huguette), sa belle-soeur et sa nièce en France, Lorraine et Josanne Ferrand, son beau-frère Gérald Brick (Sharon) ainsi que son très grand ami de la vie Antoine Daudet (Denise) et plusieurs neveux et nièces pour qui il avait beaucoup d'affection. Il a été précédé dans la mort par son épouse Janine, sa fille Micheline, ses deux soeurs Suzanne et Huguette et leurs époux, son frère Ghislain (Titi) et ses épouses, ses beaux-frères Albert Ferrand, Hubert Brick, Roger Courrège, et son gendre Don.

La famille est reconnaissante envers Charlotte, André, et Cheryl qui se sont beaucoup dévoués au soin de Guy. Merci aussi au personnel du Foyer Notre Dame pour leur gentillesse et leurs soins.

Guy is once again with his beloved Janine. He left us the morning of December 19, 2022 listening to the songs of Andrea Bocelli that he and Janine had enjoyed. A wedding picture shows them, 18 and 19 years old, standing on the steps of the church on a very windy Wednesday morning in October 1950, hat and veil flying, eyes brimming with love and joy. It’s a treasured look that shows up throughout the years.

Guy and Janine started their life together in Cardinal before moving to the farm where they raised their family, passing on the values of respect and care for the land, hard work, and devotion to family and learning. As a husband, Guy was ahead of his time in the support and encouragement he gave to his wife Janine when she left home in 1970 to train as a nurse. As a father he gave his children what he had wanted for himself: the chance to experience the world and find their own way whatever that may be.

In 1974, Guy and Janine moved outside of Winnipeg where he worked for the Parks Department. Though he had left the farm in the caring and capable hands of André and Cheryl, Guy was happy to return after retirement for summer stays full of gardening, helping in the fields, and visits with grand-children, Tavis and Dylan nearby, David from Winnipeg, Rebecca, Sarah, and Emma from the US. When fall came, Guy and Janine would leave for travels to Mexico, France, Texas, Hawaii, Florida, California, and New York where he loved to walk the city streets with Janine and go to Broadway shows and the opera. One year there was even the great pleasure of a baseball game at Yankee Stadium with his brother Gérald and sister-in-law Huguette.

Guy is survived by his children Charlotte (Don Segal*), Rachel (David Koosis), Guy (Thuy), and André (Cheryl); grandchildren David (Angelmarie), Rebecca, Sarah and Emma, Tavis (Tahnea), Dylan (Leiah), great-grandchildren Alec and Flora; his brother Gérald (Huguette), his sister-in-law and niece in France, Lorraine and Josanne Ferrand, his brother-in-law Gérald Brick (Sharon) as well as his life-long friend Antoine Daudet (Denise) and many nephews and nieces for whom he had great affection. He was preceded in death by his wife Janine, his daughter Micheline, his two sisters Suzanne and Huguette and their husbands, his brother Ghislain (Titi) and his wives, his brothers-in-law Albert Ferrand, Hubert Brick, Roger Courrège, and his son-in-law Don.

The family is grateful to Charlotte, André, and Cheryl who cared for Guy when we could not be there and to the staff at the Foyer Notre Dame for their kindness and care.

So come, my friends, be not afraid.
