In 1955, she married Artie Spencer of Rathwell. To this union 2 daughters were born, Wendy Marlene and Lila May. Artie passed away in Dec. 1966 leaving Helen to raise 2 young daughters with the help of her parents.
Helen married Bev Towns of Rathwell in 1975. Together they operated the Rathwell Solo store for a number of years. Later they sold the business and built a new house as their retirement home in Rathwell. In 2011 they moved to Oak West Estates in Morden to continue their retirement years.
Helen`s many interests included: curling (which she participated in during her younger years followed by watching all the events on TV), bowling, golfing in her later years, square dancing, playing cards and crokinole with her neighbours and friends, bingo and keeping up with her grandchildren`s activities.
She was an active leader in the 4-H program during the years her daughters were involved. She was a member of the Indianford Hospital Guild and the Rathwell UCW for many years. She enjoyed spending time with the coffee ladies.
She loved the winters spent in Mesa, Arizona as a snowbird, making many new friends. Helen and Bev also took many trips seeing different parts of the world: Hawaii, Australia, the British Iles, as well as the Canadian east and west coasts.
Her greatest passion though was spending time with her family members. She was a very proud mother, grandma and great-grandma. Regular phone calls were made, what she referred to as roll call, to check what everyone was up to.
