Peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on August 26, 2009, Henry Acoby of Swan Lake, MB,  passed on to the Spirit World at the age of 64.

Henry resided in Fisher River with his family.  He leaves to mourn his partner of 35 years Janet Crate; two children: Allison Crate and Ian Crate; three grandchildren: Skye, Summer and Kyle Crate; eight sisters: Marion, Lorraine, Bonnie, Kathy, Florence, Frances, Charlotte and Yvette; four brothers: Leonard, Leslie, Elwood and Walter; two aunts Dorothy and Mona Acoby; one uncle Fred Myran; daughter-in-law Martha; family friend Ricky (Bammer) Coyne; lifelong friends Wayne Scott and Raymond Meeches as well as numerous relatives and many friends. Henry had a quiet manner, and a sense of humor that was unique to him. He had a lot of determination and trust that everything would work out, which very often did. His strong spiritual beliefs and values helped him throughout his life journey and became his teachings that he passed on to his family and friends who knew him. His favorite pastime was singing and traveling to pow-wows. He was a drum keeper and sang with “First Nation Singers” for many years. He enjoyed working around his home and spending time with his grandchildren - especially making poached eggs in the mornings for his baby Kyle.  Henry loved animals and had many pets throughout his life; loved sports and in his early years, was a great hockey player and baseball pitcher.  He was also a residential school survivor.

The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface CICU,  Peritoneal Dialysis Unit- especially Virginia, all Henry’s care-givers, Swan Lake & Fisher River Bands and family and friends who gave us their support.
