Jake was born on July 15, 1931 at Winkler, MB and enjoyed the farm life with his parents and ten siblings. On November 3, 1951 Dad married Anne Dyck and together they worked at the T & C Seed Company in Winnipeg for about six months. Following their short stint in Winnipeg, they moved to the Mowbray district in southern Manitoba and farmed for six years. In the spring of 1958 they, along with their two daughters at this time, moved to Treherne where they continued to farm. Over the next few years, two sons were born. Jake loved the farm life and worked very hard along with his family. November 1989 saw Jake and Anne move into a new home in the town of Treherne. Of course, Jake continued to go to the farm and work. Jake was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends and family remember Jake for all of his helping ways and cheerful disposition. Dad was always ready to help anyone. Various boards and committees in the community had the benefit of his help; Agricultural Society, United Grain Growers, Credit Union, United Church Board, Co-op, Miles for Seniors and Friendship Centre.
Golf, curling, bowling, pool, playing cards, dancing were some of the activities he loved doing. He was faithful and active in his church and had a very strong faith. He will be sadly missed.
The family wish to thank the health teams on the neurology ward at the Health Sciences Centre, at the Boundary Trails Hospital and the Treherne Hospital for the excellent care given to our loved one. We greatly appreciate all the visits and acts of kindness shown by family, friends and neighbours.
Funeral Services will be held in the Treherne United Church on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Cathy Kinsman officiating.
