James Leo Esquash (Uncle Jim)

“Kimewan Keesick” – Raining Skys

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James Leo Esquash (Uncle Jim) on November 15, 2024 at his home in Swan Lake First Nation, Carberry, MB at the age of 79 years.

Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his brother Gerald (Linda) Esquash, sister Charlotte Daniels, sister Yvonne Esquash, brother Joey Longclaws, step-son Denis Frisky, brother-in-law James Mayner and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

He was predeceased by his wife Florence (Flo) Esquash, son Bruce, parents Joseph and Rose-Marie (nee Swain) Esquash, sisters Margaret and Dorothea Esquash, brothers-in-law Ernest Daniels Sr., Elvis Antoine, Jerry Frisky, nephews Joseph Esquash, Chris Esquash, Christopher Esquash, niece Cecelia Esquash, his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Jim was a proud member of Swan Lake First Nation and was an avid outdoors man who loved to go for walks in the bush and hunt. Every winter he would put out his snares. Jim worked on various farms looking after all agricultural aspects including cattle, horses, farm and machinery work. He was also a handyman and could fix just about anything he put his mind to. Jim was a humble and kind person and never looked for recognition, he was just glad to help if he could. Finally, Jim was a good helper and singer who tried his best to be a good brother, neighbor, cousin, uncle, friend to anyone and everyone. He will be missed for the good person he was and how good he treated us all.
