Joseph A. Philippot
Peacefully at the Tiger Hills Health Centre in Treherne, Manitoba on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, Mr. Joseph A. Philippot of St. Claude, Manitoba passed away at the age of 89 years.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Yvonne (née Van Der Linden); 4 children: Ronald (Linda), Shirley Popiel (Dave + ), Léonel and Lorraine (Larry) Tarko; 2 grandchildren: Joey and Derek Tarko. He also leaves to mourn his 3 sisters: Nathalie Jacques, Adrienne Troisfontaines, Louise (Aimé) Badiou; 1 brother: Raymond (Laurette) Philippot, 1 sister-in-law: Cécile Philippot. He will also be sadly missed by special friends Henri and Laurette Lacroix and family (Johanne, Serge and André). Also missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents: Alexis and Marie (née Philippe); his siblings: Angèle Oliviero, Julien, Charles, Alexis, Isabelle and Henri; In-Laws: André Oliviero, Claire Philippot, Lucienne Philippot, Mariette Philippot, Josette Philippot, Arthur Jacques, José Troisfontaines, Alexandre and Anna Vigier, Léon & Alice Thorimbert, Marcel Van Der Linden & Georges Van Der Linden; and son-in-law: David Popiel.
Joseph was born and raised on a farm near St. Claude, Manitoba. He returned to the farm in 1946 after 3 years’ service in the army. At a social in 1949, he met his dream girl, Yvonne Van Der Linden, who became his wife on October 3, 1951. They bought a farm where they raised their family and eventually specialized in dairy, retiring in 1984 to the town of St. Claude. After retirement Joseph gave freely of his time volunteering in many areas of his community where he saw a need. Other activities that brought him pleasure were playing cards and watching local sporting events.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff of the Tiger Hills Health Centre in Treherne for the excellent care and compassion extended to Joseph and the family. Thank you.
A family memorial service will be held at Adam’s Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 7 p.m. with a private interment at a later date.
