Jowana Adimila Pelletier

Jowana Adimila Pelletier (nee Naliva) passed away peacefully on August 14, 2014 in the palliative care unit at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 50 years.

Jowanna leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, John, her children; Rosie and Angelina Pelletier, and Kelera (Danny) Williams; grandchildren, Avah, Tayshaun Simione, Anaia and DanDan (Daniel Jr.), her parents Ratu Epeli Naliva and Adi Pasemaca Valalau, and mother-in-law Irene Pelletier. Siblings, Lasaro (Ama) Apenisa, Kelera (Tom) Tutini, Simione (Asenaca) Waqaicece, Silina (Kelevi) Muwai, Guy (Ging Ging) Pelletier, Paul (Ivannia) Pelletier, Rene (Linda) Pelletier, Gisele (Marcel) Blair, and Jackie (Rod) Feledechuk, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

She is  predeceased by her dear grandmother Adi Luisa Aladei, her sister Aditea Simo and her father-in law John D. Pelletier, as well as other beloved family and friends.

Jowana was born on October 26, 1963 in the village of Wainadiro, Serua, Fiji Islands. While still in Fiji, she married her husband John on September 18, 1985 as he was living there during his travels. She and her daughter Rosie immigrated to Swan Lake, Manitoba, Canada in late 1985, and the family later relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1997.  She quickly made many long lasting relationships in her new home country and during her many travels, always attracting people from different walks of life.  Even in her sickness, Jowana always maintained a love for life and a kind & caring personality, often putting others needs before her own. She was well known for organizing many cultural events and parties as well as for her amazing cooking and baking.  Jowana was a passionate people person, always being careful to make everyone feel welcome and important.  She will be dearly  missed by so many of her family and friends around the world.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday August 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. with viewing prior, at St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church located at 820 Cottonwood Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba with reception to follow.

An excerpt from Jowana’s diary during her last trip to Fiji in 2012 reads: “Death is not extinguishing the light, it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.” - Rabindranath Tagore, Nobel Peace prize winner.
