Judy Babs Franklin (née Stewner)
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Judy Franklin of Winnipeg, MB. With her family by her side, Judy passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 73 years.
She leaves to mourn her loving husband Len Franklin; four children, Jamie (Lorraine) Franklin, Lynda (Rhéal) Lesage, Larry (Mary) Franklin and Chantal Cobb; 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Victoria, Riley, Dylen, Christopher, Liam, Alyssa (Logan), Tyler (Ilish), Natasha (Dallas), Shaedon (Nicole), Shieran (Alyssa) and Chalan; one great-grandson Bentley; two brothers, Larry (Denyse) Stewner and John (Sharron) Stewner; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Caroline Stewner and by Len’s parents, Leslie and Ruby Franklin.
Judy was born in Winnipeg and grew up with two brothers. In the spring of 1968 she met Len, the love of her life, and they were married shortly after. Together they raised their three kids, Jamie, Lynda and Larry. While raising her kids, because of her love of cooking / baking, our mom was constantly sharing her baked goods with neighbors, friends and family, which has been passed down to us and some of the grandkids.
Our mom had many interests; in particular she loved playing bingo, cribbage, canasta, and yahtzee. Judy also loved finishing ceramics which she gave as gifts for family and friends. Mom could be seen any day of the week at a bingo hall whenever dad was on the road. But, once we kids had become adults our mom started travelling with dad around North America. While she was content spending time in the passenger seat, she knew she wanted more of a challenge, so she got her class 1 driver’s license and the roles were reversed. Coming from a family of truck drivers; her grandfather, dad, brother, husband, both sons and grandson, Judy truly cherished her time traveling the highways.
In 1997, mom was reunited with her first born daughter Chantal, whom she had been searching for through the years. Following the very first meeting the bond between the two grew and Chantal became part of our family.
Judy truly cherished her time spent with the kids, grandkids and her great grandson. Because of her love of animals, our mom always treasured her visits to the farm in Notre Dame. Mom was always looking forward to settling in Notre Dame. These visits were always a highlight for her and kept her going through all difficult situations.
