With her family by her side, Mom passed away at her home as she wished. She leaves to mourn her children Ron (Marlene), Wayne, Beverly (Alfred), Freida, Sharon (Clarence), Doris, Linda, Cindy, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Joseph Esquash, sister, Francis (Charlie) Monteyne, numerous nieces and nephews.  Special mention is given to Johnny Meechas, Brian Walker and Elaine Scott whom she had a unique bond with.

Mom was predeceased by her parents – Louie and Sophie Esquash, daughters Helen and Rita, father of her children Gordon Myran, brothers Charlie and George, sisters Elizabeth, Alice, Agnes, Mary, Theresa, and Alexandria, grandchildren Kelly, Cory, Shannon, great grandson Brendan and special sons Wayne Daniels and Roy McKinney.

Mom was born at Indian Springs, MB. As a young girl, mom was somewhat of a tomboy. She farmed alongside her father and brothers and was an avid horsewoman. Mom loved to share stories with her grandchildren of her youth including attending Sundances and Powwows with her mom and dad. She was proud of the traditions and teachings that her parents gave to her and passed these down to her children and grandchildren.  She was involved in the Sundance ceremony from a young age and had always looked forward to each summer.  She was especially proud of her White Earth, MN heritage and had the opportunity later in life to travel there to see her mother’s birthplace.  Her strong faith and her connection to the Spirit of the Buffalo sustained her through the most difficult times of her life and at the same time she credited that connection to all the good things that came her way.

Mom enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, ‘fill-it-in’ puzzles, and playing Keno.  Her favourite TV shows included Columbo, Murder She Wrote, Touched By An Angel, and her Soaps. Mom took great pride in her appearance and could be easily identified in a crowd by her stylish hats.  She enjoyed travelling, especially to Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Minnesota, BC, Alberta and those spur-of-the-moment road trips with her brother, Joe.

Although Mom was sweet natured, loving and prided herself on being refined, she often surprised us with her quick wit and dry sarcasm.  We will honor her by following her example by trying to bring a smile to those who cross our paths.

Mom leaves as her lasting legacy, the gifts of bravery, perseverance, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, humility, grace and unconditional love.  She had a unique knack and ability to make meaningful connections with others to make them feel valued. To all of those she called her own, we thank you and it is our honor to have shared her with you.

Our family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation of the special care given to Mom by all her healthcare professionals, homecare staff (especially Jeannette, Norma and Tracy), Palliative Care program and nurses, and all those who were able to be with her until the end.

I have so many things to see and do,

You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears;

Be happy that we had so many years

I gave to you my love, you can only guess

How much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for all the love you each have shown,

But now it’s time I travelled on alone.

So grieve for a while for me if grieve you must;

Then let your grief be comforted by trust,

It’s only for awhile that we must part,

So bless the memories within your heart.

A Traditional Wake will be held at the Swan Lake First Nation Hall on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.  Traditional Feast begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010 followed by Funeral Mass in the Our Lady of Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Mariapolis, MB at 2:00 p.m.  Interment to follow at the Parish Cemetery.
