Lucien was born in 1958 in Notre-Dame de Lourdes, the ninth of twenty children to Denise and Donat Lesage. Raised on a family farm, he grew up immersed in values of respect, hard work, patience, and compassion. As a child, Lucien often wore his "favorite green dress" and had long, curly hair, endearing him to everyone around him. He fondly remembered the adventures he shared with his siblings, playing outlaws with their horses, fishing in their favorite fishing hole and helping with farm chores. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and began working various jobs at a young age, and that drive remained with him throughout his life. His sharp wit and sense of humor bound people together, ensuring there was always plenty of laughter wherever he went.
Lucien's deep connection with the land was clear from early on. His mother remarked that, out of all her children, Lucien was the most eager to assist her in the garden. His dream of cultivating his own farm was shaped by her teachings and his own determination. He also inherited his father’s knack for salvaging various items and his resourcefulness embodied the saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” His talent for repurposing was so impressive that his sons were able to build a cabin on the farm using his collections. Over the past three decades, Lucien devoted himself fully to his farm and homestead, creating what visitors often called a "piece of paradise." Tending and harvesting his garden and caring for his sheep became his form of meditation. His dedication to the Earth extended beyond his farm, reflected in his environmental advocacy efforts.
At every step of the way, Lucien’s wife and soulmate, Mireille, was by his side. Her loving touch, culinary talent, and joyful spirit turned the farm into a true home. His children were the center of his world, and he was so proud of them. His grandchildren brought him even greater joy. We love you Lou and we miss you so much already. The loss we feel for you is so profound…You really were one of a kind.
