With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Madeleine Martin, on Monday September 15, 2008 at the age of 88 years old.
She will be sadly missed by her three children Marilyn (Bill) Oldfield, Ronald (Barb) Martin and Gisele (Phil) Hudson and her 5 most treasured grandchildren: Ryan, Chelsea, and Sara Hudson; Brett and Michael Oldfield. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Germaine Rosset, Odette (André) Bazin and her special in- laws Aline Carel, Charles Martin, Pierre Martin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 29 years, Jean in 1977; her parents Jean-Louis and Mathurine Carel, her sisters Louise Rey, Adrienne Bernard and her brother Louis Carel as well as her in laws August Rey, Lucien Bernard, Arthur Rosset, Andre Martin, Paul Martin and Germaine Martin.
Mom was born in St Claude on July 29, 1920. She and dad were married on June 9, 1948. They owned and operated the Red & White General Store in St. Claude for many years where they served the community with great care and passion. Family was always first with mom. She loved her children and grand-children dearly and was always so proud of their accomplishments. She had many hobbies and interests such as curling, gardening and spending time with her many special friends. Her love of travel took her to many exotic places around the world with her sisters, brother, in-laws and her good friend Adele. She loved sharing her great memories with her friends and family. Mom loved to laugh, dance and enjoyed all social activities. Her strong faith and belief in God was evident in all aspects of her life.
Funeral Services will be held in the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Friday, September 19, 2008. Prayers, eulogy and video tribute at 1:30 p.m. followed by celebration of the Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. with Father Armand Legal officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the St Claude home care personnel, the staff at the St Claude Regional Health Centre for the many months of care and comfort they provided Mom as well as the Victoria Hospital staff for their concern during the last few weeks of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Adult Day Program, St. Claude Wellness Centre or to a charity of choice.
