It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mme Marie Bernard (née de Rocquigny) of Haywood on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the age of 89 years.  She’s gone to join her beloved deceased husband, Georges.

She leaves to mourn her children: Francine (Jos),  Michel (Evelyne), Gilbert (Penny), Colette (Adrien), Huguette (Al), Claude (Brenda) and Edith (Reynold); one daughter-in-law, Annette (Landreville); twenty-two grandchildren:  Lorraine (Fernand), Louis (Nicole), Evelyne (Alex), Joëlyne (Paul), Roger (Angie), Lynn (Michael), Christian (Stéphanie), Daniel (Nicole), Brittany, Sylvie, Léanne (Daryl), Estelle (David), Renée, Chantal, Patrick (Carla), Angela (Blake), Chris, Corey, Cayla, Patrick (Lindsay), Janelle (Matt), Danica (Daniel); twenty-four great-grandchildren: Jérémie, Denis, Chantal, Danica, Kailey, Nicholas, Noah, Natasha, Samantha, Corinne, Regan, Natasha, Rylynn, Brendan, Breyelle, Eva, Maëlle, Claude, Dani, Kaylee, Zev, Jamie, Paige, and Jessica. She also leaves to mourn one brother-in-law, Clément; two sisters-in-law:  Catherine de Rocquigny, Marie-Rose de Rocquigny;  numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.  She was predeceased by her parents, Philippe and Marie (de Moissac), her father and mother-in-law, Gaston and Lucie (Gougeon), her son Henri, her daughter Lynne, her grandson Christopher, her great-grandson Jarret, her grandson-in-law Norbert Lussier, her brothers and sister:  Arthur,  Hilaire (Nathalie), Père Joseph de Rocquigny, Louis (Laurianne), Adèle (Ludovic Philippot), and François.  She was also predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law:  Henri, Alice (Louis), Maurice (Philomène), Marcel (Yvonne) and Cecile.

Marie was born in Haywood on May 29, 1923.  She was born on the paternal farm where she lived her entire childhood.  She attended Haywood and then St. Claude School.  She then attended St. Adolphe Convent for a year.  At the age of 15, she returned to help on the farm.  Marie married Georges Bernard on October 7, 1942.  They then moved to Victoria where Georges was sent for his army training.  Marie returned to Haywood to have her first child, Francine and to help her brother Louis with his five children.  When Georges returned from overseas, they settled on the farm where they raised their eight children.  Marie worked very hard cooking, cleaning, gardening, and doing chores.  She was a dedicated wife and mother and never stopped working to take time for herself.  Marie always put her family’s needs first.

Prayers and viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at Adam’s Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the St. Denis Roman Catholic Church in Haywood, Manitoba.  Eulogy and a video tribute at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. with Father Guy Lavallée officiating.

The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the staff of the Pavilion in St. Claude.  You are such wonderful people.  We are so very thankful that Mom was in such great care.  Your kindness and compassion was very much appreciated and will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Claude Pavilion, St. Claude, MB R0G 1Z0.
