She also leaves to mourn her siblings, Marguerite Baete, Angele Fifi, Celine Lebeau, Robert (Jackie) Marginet and Annette (Albert) Wytinck; special family, Jerry Baltesson, John Moore, Robert and Yvonne Callewaert as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Clement Adam in 1984, her parents Alberic and Louise Marginet (née Hutlet), her parents-in-law Camille and Clementine Adam (née Godard); her siblings, Alice Marginet, Adele (Albert) Cabernel, Raymond Marginet, Roland Marginet and Angeline Marginet; her brothers-in-law Joe Baete, Armand Fifi, Reynald Lebeau, Lucien (Gerarda) Adam and Edward (Mona) Adam; her sisters-in-law Elsie (Don) Smith and Claire (Marcel) DeGraeve, and her son-in-law Richard Devloo.
Mom was born on March 2, 1926, in Bruxelles, Manitoba, the eldest of 11 children. She was raised on the family farm and remained a country girl at heart throughout her life. Her family farmed in the area and eventually owned and operated Marginet Lumber. She attended Ste. Marie School and, as the oldest, helped care for and raise her younger siblings.
In 1947, she married Clement Marcel Adam, and together they raised five children. They lived in Bruxelles and later moved to Holland, where they lived until 1974 before eventually settling in Notre Dame de Lourdes, where they started Adam’s Funeral Home and Ambulance Service. Dad passed away in 1984 at the young age of 62. Mom, at the age of 58, then spent the next 42 years on her own. She later returned to Holland to live at the Manor and, after a severe fall, moved back to Notre Dame, where she spent her remaining years at the Notre Dame Foyer. No matter where she lived, she made many longtime friends.
Mom loved to garden and spent many hours canning the fruits of her labour. She was a wonderful cook and baker who loved having people over for supper and entertaining family and friends. Her home was always spotless, tidy, and welcoming. Her passion was dancing, and she had many friends who would take her to dances and jamborees across the countryside. She spent much of her time volunteering at the Foyer, often helping care for people much younger than herself. She also loved playing cards and could happily play for hours, especially with her grandchildren. In many ways, her grandchildren were her reward for raising her children. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Catholic Church on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 1:30pm followed by interment in the Notre Dame Parish Cemetery and then a Celebration of Life will be held at the Notre-Dame Centennial Hall at 3:00p.m. The Celebration of Life will be live streamed at www.afh.ca
Thank you to the Notre Dame Foyer for the excellent care Mom received over the years. The staff truly made it feel like home for her. A special thank you to Jayde for the personal touch, she went above and beyond. We are also grateful to everyone who took the time to visit and spend time with Mom; she always loved those moments. Finally, thank you to all our family members who cared for her and stayed by her side during her time in the hospital.
