Marilyn Plaitin

(nee Foidart)

Marilyn Plaitin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at the Notre Dame Health Centre at the age of 79 years.

Marilyn was born in Swan Lake, Manitoba, on October 12, 1944. A spitting image of her mother, she was the second eldest child of a sibling group of 7. Marilyn met her beloved husband, Florimond, at the "Four Corners" when she was just 16 and he was 18. Her mother instantly liked him, partly because he could speak Flemish. Their first date was a movie, which led to many more nights filled with live music and dancing — a passion they both shared.

Marilyn's first high school job was sorting spools of thread at J & P Coats, a thread company in Winnipeg. She later worked at a bank but always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Despite not pursuing that profession, she found her passion as a school librarian, sharing her love of learning with many students who remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Marilyn was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, whose warmth extended through generations, including her great-grandchildren. Her talents were endless — from gardening, cake decorating, and sewing Halloween and ice show costumes. She was an avid reader, and loved to travel, exploring many destinations - her most cherished being her dream trip to Graceland and Nashville with her soulmate and her children.  What an adventure that was!

Marilyn’s home was a place of comfort and joy, filled with the delicious smells of her homemade baking and cooking, skills passed down from her mother. Her family will forever treasure her canned goods, BBQ sauce, and relish, and the way she could always whip up a never-ending batch of cookies. Marilyn found great joy in curling, Belgian bowling, camping, and laughing with friends and family.

Above all, Marilyn cherished her family. Her warmth, laughter, and love will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.  Marilyn’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, whose lives she touched with her kindness, humor, and unwavering love.

She leaves to mourn her husband Florimond, her children, Curtis (Tracy) Plaitin, Leslie (Rene) Rheault, Marcie (Gilles) Dupasquier, Florena (Trevor) Richardson, Barbara (David) Temmerman and Karen (Brent) Gillis; her grandchildren, Nathaniel, Colby, Coltyn, Joel (Kim), Carlyn (Cliff), Alison (Richard), Nikita (Bryan), Natasha (Brenden), Tiffany (Patrick), Kenzie (Nathan), Kyla (Ian), Brady, Alysia (Yohan), Ethan, Aiden, Kiara, Kathryn, Anthony, Anyssa; her great-grandchildren, Tessa, Dreyden, Ezlyn, Zaiya, Wren, Zack, Chase, Faith, Lexi, Teagan, Brock, Lennox, Braxton, Liv, Trip, Azayla and Zenly. She also leaves her siblings and in-laws, Leonard (Tharsile) Foidart, Paulette (Brian) Peterniak, Marie (Michael) Deroche, Morris (Claudette) Foidart, Heather Foidart, Eveline Cruise, Raymond (Sharon) Plaitin and Adeline VanCauwenberghe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Marilyn was predeceased by her grandson Tyson Rheault, her parents Paul and Martha Foidart, her parents-in-law George and Yvonne Plaitin, her brother Mark Foidart, her sister Lisa Foidart, her sister-in-law Lorraine Foidart and brothers-in-law Gordon Cnudde, Ronald Cruise and Larry VanCauwenberghe and niece Sarah Foidart.
