Mary was born on February 10, 1926 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. At the age of 11, she moved to Elie, Manitoba where she spent the rest of her life. She was very active in the community. After her children were in school, Mary worked at Gillis Store until she became employed at the Elie Credit Union where she stayed for approximately 18 years. She was always ready to help in any way she could, volunteering her time and energy willingly. She was athletic and loved curling, gardening and later in life, golfing and bowling. She enjoyed travelling and had the pleasure of some beautiful trips while George was alive. After George passed away, she moved to the Cartier Manor in Elie where she spent her days socializing, playing cards and knitting. Many babies have known the warmth of her knitted "owl" sweaters.
Her favourite times were the family gatherings. She loved to plan and organize meals and get-togethers for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and other special days of the year. Outings with her sisters were something that she looked forward to with great anticipation. Her children knew they could always count on her for advice and support in all their endeavours. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to visit "granny" because they knew she would always welcome them and have special treats for them.
Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Grace Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital MICU. Special thanks to nurse Blake who never left her side.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Elie, Manitoba on Saturday February 28, 2004 at 2:00 p.m., preceded with Recitation of the Rosary at 1:30 p.m. Father Albert Lafrenière officiating. Interment at a later date.
