Mary Ann Hobson
August 7, 1939 - February 21, 2010

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister, Mary Ann Hobson on February 21, 2010 at the age of 70 years old.

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughters: Marlene Martin, Barbara and Diane Courchene (Jerry); sons: Larry and Philip; sisters: Daisy and Louisa; brothers: Gerry Gray and Albert Hanson; 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Allan Hobson; brothers: Richard, James and George; sisters: Ethel and Cecilia; granddaughters: Angel and Sonya Hobson; son-in-law Melvin Martin and by her son Robert Martin.

Mary was born in Carman, Manitoba and grew up on Swan Lake First Nation as a child. She was a residential school survivor who attended the Portage Indian Residential School. She raised her family in Southern Manitoba and in 1971 moved with her children to Winnipeg, Manitoba. She retired in 2005 from Tuxedo Villa after 24 years of service. She remained close with her many friends that she worked with. Mary's favourite things to do were to shop, play bingo and enjoy coffee with anyone of her close friends.

Mary was a strong and fiercely independent woman right up to the end. She was more concerned about how her family felt then about her own welfare. She enriched the lives of her family and friends with her kindness and generosity of spirit.

A Traditional Wake will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 4 p.m. at the Swan Lake First Nation Community Hall with Funeral Services on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 2 p.m.  Interment to follow at the Indian Springs Cemetery.

The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Women’s Hospital for the kindness and care provided to Mary.
