Peacefully at the Rock Lake Personal Care Home on Sunday, March 7, 2010, Mr. Maurice Van Cauwenberghe of Swan Lake, Manitoba passed away at the age of 86 years.

Mickey was born January 10, 1924 in Bruxelles, Manitoba on the home farm to Hector Van Cauwenberghe and Malvina (née Deschouwer).  In 1944 he married Eileen De Vloo.  They were in the trucking business from 1944 to 1967.  In 1953 they started Swan Lake Memorials and retired in 1974.  Together they did a lot of traveling to the East and West Coasts.  They spent nineteen winters in the southern states which they really enjoyed.  They both loved feeding birds and loved their little garden as long as they had good health.  Maurice loved playing the accordion for dances and other outings.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Eileen (DeVloo) on January 3, 1998 after a lengthy illness.  Mickey also lost his two daughters Marlene Francois of Holland, MB March 11, 1995 at the age of fifty, and Sandra De Smet of Swan Lake, MB April 20, 1987 at the age of forty.  By his mother Malvina in 1961, his father in 1954, one sister Martha in 1983, 3 brothers Marcel in 1953, Orcel in 1984 and Cyriel in 1967.

He leaves to mourn two son-in-laws, Henri Francois and Octave Desmet; three grandchildren, Lorene and Twyla Francois and Dale Desmet; one granddaughter-in-law Leona Desmet; three great-grandchildren, Shawn, Kayla and Ryan.  He also leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held in the St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church in Swan Lake, MB on Friday, March 12, 2010.  Recitation of the Rosary at 1:30, Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the Parish Cemetery with Father Francis Eworo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB,  R3E 0V9.
